FI is a DJ on the side sometimes and he says nothing gets old white people dancing like Brick House.

  • My list is at home. I have so many songs already!
  • We're having dueling pianos for our entertainment, and kind of leaving it up to their repertoire/expertise. We have specifically requested Rapper's Delight though. :) I'm encouraging lots of Billy Joel, Hall and Oates, Doobie Brothers, 90's pop and old-school hip-hop, to the best of their abilities. It should be a good mix!

Besides that, we're doing a Motown wedding mix for cocktail hour (more upbeat) and Rat Pack mix for dinner (more laid back and smooth). Piano guy said it's all wedding-appropriate songs, nothing about breakups or cheating or anything. Bridal party will enter to Final Countdown (because Pistons), we'll come in to Next to Me by Emeli Sande. Father/daughter dance is Walk With You by Edwin McCain. Mother/son is Old Time Rock & Roll. Haven't 100% decided on our song yet, ack!

None of our processional music is on the list above. Our first dance will be to Ellie Goulding's cover of Your Song.

  • I LOVE dueling pianos. That is a fantastic idea @lolo883, and I'm slightly jealous of your entertainment. :)
  • Oh and I REALLY REALLY wanna play Ini Kamoze, Here Comes the Hotstepper. But I think that would only happen if our 4 hours of pianos runs out and they switch to DJ music. So, somebody play that for me!

  • My wedding isn't until May, so I don't have it all worked out, but I am horrible and have more songs on my "do not play" list than my "must play" list.  These are only mental lists at this point, but we do have a few picked out for sure:

First dance-I Wanna Grow Old With You from The Wedding Singer
    Father/Daughter-landslide (first part only--too long!)
Prelude: Storybook Love (plus other stuff TBD, and I totally stole the idea from TK!)
WP Processional: Appalachia Waltz by Yo-Yo Ma
My walk: The Rain Song by Led Zeppelin (starting around the 1:30 mark)
Recessional: Ain't Wastin' Time No More by Allman Brothers (actually a bit of a morbid song, but FI and I have been together for 7 years, and he associates this song with not wasting time waiting to get married...and it has a good beginning that will sound good after we kiss! :)

Other songs I want but haven't decided where to include: Signed, Sealed, Delivered (maybe first song with everyone invited to the floor?); a bunch of Beatles and oldies type music, a little bit of grandma-friendly hip-hop and dance music...and we are reformed hippies, so probably a little Phish and Widespread Panic for good measure! :)

We are having fireworks at the end and deciding between Firework by Katy Perry (cliche but appropriate) or You Should Me All Night Long by AC/DC...suggestions are welcome! :)

I totally just stole this (but the Olivia Millerschin version).

I totally want this to be my father/daughter dance. I always associate that song with my dad and dancing to it with him at weddings and daddy/daughter dances. :)

That was why FMIL picked it! I asked her if she had anything in mind that she'd like to dance to, she looked at FI and said "well you know what that has to be. Every time it came on the radio and we'd all start dancing and singing? Old Time Rock & Roll, baby!" Adorbs.

  • We didn't make a playlist, but did pick out the important songs and type of music for each part.
    Processional - Pachebel's Canon in D
Signing the Papers (done during the ceremony in Canada) - "Love Story" by Taylor Swift
Recessional - "All of Me" by John Legend
Reception Entrance - Game of Thrones theme (DH picked)
Dinner Music - mostly The Piano Guys covers, some jazz, and Great Big Sea (another DH request)
First Dance - "A Thousand Years" by The Piano Guys
Father/Daughter and Mother/Son Dance - some song from Star Trek (DH pick)
Last Dance - "Come Away With Me" by Norah Jones

We had a mix of current pop music, some oldies, and some country for the dancing.

Ooh, I love the cheese factor!  Definitely want Super Freak and Groove is in the Heart on the must play list.  I would also ad "All Night Long" by Lionel Richie to that.  And This is How We Do It...

  • @beethery‌ I am considering using Lana del Rey as a song to walk down the aisle to. I CAN'T JUDGE. FH and I are huuuuge Lana fans.

  • We don't have one. It's a non-dancing reception, so we're just having the restaurant stream one of their usual channels in the background (they have two: "golden oldies" and "smooth jazz").

I'm still trying to decide on our ceremony music. Standing up to the family and going with the civil ceremony over the Catholic ceremony has opened the options somewhat, but I'm leaning towards this for walking in. Chose the English over the Japanese because the lyrics are happier (the Japanese is kinda about death and stuff). I'm totally stumped for walking out though.

That song sounds like one that's used at the end of a Miyazaki film, I can't think of which one though! I want to say My Neighbor Totoro but I'm probably wrong. Definitely wrong. SPIRITED AWAY! I was partially right!

  • We had people write in requested songs to be played at the wedding on the RSVP cards. Lots of people have left the field blank. I think we got lucky. So far, we've gotten:

    "Bust a Move"
    "Baby Got Back"
"Lowrider" - which, ironically, was going to be our entrance song
"Dangerous on the Dance Floor" (AKA "The Rita Song," one of FI's favorite car-dancing songs)

And my dad has requested "Dancing in the Moonlight" by Van Morrison. I'm hoping he'll let me use that as our father/daughter song instead.
