Catering Offsite

Hi Knotties, my fiance and I are thinking about hosting an outdoor wedding at a mansion-like event venue. The venue does not have an industrial kitchen so the catering will have to be done offsite then brought in. Does anyone know if this is common, and do you think something like this would impact quality of food in terms of freshness and temperature? what do you think?

Re: Catering Offsite

  • We brought in a caterer offsite to our reception venue (a museum). They cooked the day of the wedding at their own kitchen, showed up 2 hours before dinner service, and prepped and plated in the baby kitchen of the museum. Our food was fantastic and the temperatures were perfect.

I think it largely depends on the caterer themselves. I've had wedding food from an in-house country club/hotel that's been cold and rubbery. It just depends on the quality of the caterer.

Wouldn't hurt to set up appointments with a couple caterers and ask how they handle the situation.

  • It depends on the caterer. Ask them what their experience is with that kind of situation. Our caterer brought the food already prepared, but it was pulled pork and various salads. Quality wasn't an issue.
