Asking the Bridal Party!

Hello Ladies! 

One aspect I am struggling with is asking not my brides maides, but my "personal attendent." We have a small close knit group of college girls, so 6 are in my bridal party. However, one of my good friends won't be a BM, but is part of that close group! I dont want an odd number of BM, and 8 is too many. So, I was thinking of asking her to be my personal assistant on the wedding day. HOwever, I don't want to be rude, so I'm not sure how to word it. Did any of you have this problem? And if so, what did you do about it?

Please don't do this. Asking someone to be your "assistant" isn't an honor. That is a position that is is typically paid.
Also, you're aware you posted this in the WI board, correct?

I'd suggest going with an odd number, or maybe asking her to be a hostess instead. Your maid/matron of honor is already there to assist you.

Thanks for the help ladies! And yes, I realize I posted this in the WI board, that is where I am from, and where I will be getting married.
