I absolutely cannot stand work cliques. We all work together, lets pretend to like each other whether we like them or not. We actually have a group of ladies in one department that has not offered qualified people the job because they would not fit in with their group. Ugh . . .

This reminds me of something that happened at the last school I taught at. One of my bridesmaids (also a teacher) got married the summer before school started, and so did another one of the teachers. Other teacher was really tight with our principal. When school started, he announced there would be a gift card collection for anyone who wanted to celebrate them getting married. We know my friend was only included b/c it would have been inappropriate not to include her. And the whole thing seemed absurd, to basically be asked to give wedding gifts to people we may or may not have been invited to the weddings of. The following year, when I got married, he didn't do anything for me. I didn't expect him to, and I had thought it was inappropriate that he did it the year before as well, but it still rubbed me the wrong way that there was not equity in the "celebrations" of people.
