Talk to me about blenders

My magic bullet blender died this morning. I wasn't a fan of it so I'm looking for a new blender. I'll mostly be making smoothies, but also a few drinks with crushed ice. Any suggestions for a not-too-expensive replacement blender?

  • I have one of these (click) for my morning smoothies, and I have this (click) for other stuff. Looooove both.

  • I have a cusinart that does well. It was 99, but you can get them cheaper.
If you don't want to spend that much, Oster tends to be nice around 50 bucks

  • I love my Cuisinart. It is, however, difficult for drunk people to operate. Which is why mine is currently still green in some of the crevices. (My friend was trying to make grasshoppers, and accidentally unscrewed the jar from the base.)

  • Another Cuisinart devotee. Mine is the combo blender/food processor, which is great. Whatever you get, get one with a glass pitcher rather than plastic.

  • My mom has a Hamilton Beach blender that is like a knockoff of the Magic Bullet, and it works just fine.  I would recommend getting a gear driven blender over a belt driven one, because belts are the first to go, usually.

  • FI and I registered for a Bella brand blender (on mobile right now so it's a PITA to link to but if you Google I'm sure it'll come up). They are very similar to the magic bullet/ninja bullets but are MUCH sturdier and better made, plus the cups are bigger and nicer. FMIL has one and it does so great making smoothies/milkshakes/etc that we registered for the exact same one Very decent price wise as well :)

  • I went through 2 magic bullets rapidly. I really didn't like the quality. We bought a Ninja as a replacement and I love it. It was a set with personal sized cups like the magic bullet and a large blender as well. We paid 89.00 for it on sale.

Although I'm not sure if they have them in the USA as I'm Canadian. So this might be of little help.

The Ninja blender with a cup does indeed come down here to the states.  (If only I had seen this thread yesterday...) We bought a Ninja blender last Sun. because they were on sale at Target and my husband fell in LOVE with my ILs' Ninja when we were down there recently.  We got the basic one without the smoothie cup for $99, got a $20 gift card back and were able to use the $15 home purchase coupon on it.  Then we paid with our red card to get that 5% knocked off.  Felt like a total couponing bad ass.

We have made margaritas in that thing pretty much every night since and it's been great.  My husband says it's WAY easier to clean than our old blender (which was a very cheap I'm-on-a-college-budget blender) and it crushes ice amazingly well.  It is a bit loud, but you can get used to that since it's only on for less than a minute.
  • Thanks for the suggestions everyone! I'll check these out when I'm running errands today.
