Having major shopping withdrawal

Re: Having major shopping withdrawal

  • @Beethery I'd love to make my own centerpieces, but the venue provides them, so it seems like a time and money drain.  Plus, there's the getting them to Sydney bit.  I'm making thank you gifts for my BMs, Dad, and two MOBs.  Super sure I'm probably not going to get them all finished in time - I've been working on Dad's since the beginning of July.  Well, that teaches me to never again make a complicated king size quilt top as a gift.  Obviously this is a special circumstance though.

But thanks ladies.  It was really interesting reading all of your experiences.
Oooooh! I don't know shit about sewing, I wish I could do something like that. My dad has wanted a homemade quilt FOREVER.

Ick I need to learn how to quilt. Promising to make my mom a quilt out of our old baby clothes was the only way I talked that packrat into letting go of them. My sales pitch included such tripe as "you can wrap yourself up with your babies like a big warm hug and snuggle with us all again."

ETA I bought the pink paisley bikini top, a white ruffled top, plain white side-tie bottoms and a pink off-the-shoulder beach cover-up dress that's actually cute enough to go to lunch in, all for $75. :) Yay!

  • @beethery and @lolo883  I really don't recommend that anyone learn how to quilt.  It's such a ridiculously expensive hobby.  You'd be lucky to get out of a double quilt for less than $150 unless you're buying super cheap fabric, which isn't always a bad thing, but it's difficult to find good quality fabric in discount stores.  It's really not complicated though; or it doesn't have to be.  If you can use a sewing machine, you're pretty much set.  I love Craftsy for some things, but i taught myself from books.

And yay on the new swimsuit!
