Couponers?

It looks like there are a few of us out here!

What are your favorite tricks?

I live in an area without doubling, etc. so it's a little bit harder to have the huge loads that you see on TV. I tend to do most of my damage combining Cartwheel, Target printable coupons, Target mobile coupons, and manufacturer coupons. I only get 1 (occasionally 2) newspapers a week so I'm not bringing in thousands of items unless there's something worth buying coupons for. I keep crazy spreadsheets and go from there.

I've gotten a bit behind on things due to a big house project we've been working on but I'll be back to work when I'm done!

How about everyone else?

Re: Couponers?

  • I coupon as much as I can because our grocery bill gets out of hand if I don't. I go to livingrichwithcoupons.com or couponmom.com to do the coupon match-ups for my local grocery stores. I get a copy of the Sunday paper first thing, and if it has good coupons that I can stack with sales and other discounts, I'll pick up more copies. My grocery store lets us digitally put coupons onto our store cards via their website, so I always check to see what promotions they have up before I hit the store.

  • I just started getting into couponing.  I've been Ibotta, which gives you rebates that you can debit back onto your card.

  • Ibotta is good as is Checkout 51.

    I love allthingtarget.com, totallytarget.com, and thekrazycouponlady.com too.

  • I also love retailmenot.com for non-grocery coupons. If I shop online, I try to use Ebates.com for everywhere that they partner with (PM me if anyone wants my referral code). I don't do a lot of online shopping, but it was awesome when we were getting stuff for the wedding since even 3% back was better than nothing. A lot of the stationery places had decent money-back offers!

  • I don't know how to coupon. At all. How should I get started?

livingrichwithcoupons.com has a tutorial (my work blocks that domain for some ungodly reason). Also, here's another one: http://www.couponmom.com/tutorials-416.

  • I agree with @CookiePusher- that's a great tutorial.

Also, remember not to get products you won't use just because of a discount. For instance, high sugar cereals are often available very cheaply. We don't eat them so I don't buy them, despite them being a lot cheaper. Private label brands may still be cheaper after multiple discounts as well.

Finally, stock up on products you use while they're cheap. Our household goes through tons of toilet paper and paper towels. It's appalling how quickly my boys go through a roll of paper towels. They always seem expensive to me. When Target had a brand that we like on clearance, I pulled out my coupon bin, Cartwheel, and mobile coupons and bought as much as I could fit in my car (note: subcompacts are not ideal for big trips!). I haven't bought any in 4 months, and counting

I've also been stupid. My boys are unable to show good judgment around mayo. I forget this from time to time and buy it when I've got great deals. This is a bad plan. My friend has the same problem with soda. Don't bring large quantities of stuff into the house if you can't control you consumption.

    Good luck!

  • I use the coupons in the newspapers but I also go to http://www.coupons.com and print off coupons at home for some of the same stuff and different stuff that come in the newspapers. I also shop at Meijer and they have mperks that you can sign up for, and have 3 categories, usually a health/beauty reward, something for toys, electronics, apparel/shoes, home, and then various grocery rewards, or they have some like if you spend $575 you get 15 dollars off your next shopping trip and so forth. Each when you select that reward, you purchase stuff in that section it goes towards that once you collect it you get so much money off towards your next shopping trip. They also have pharmacy rewards too that once you fill so many prescriptions you can redeem the points towards dollars off gas, groceries etc.
