Any good apple recipes?

So FI is out most of this weekend scouting some hunting spots with one of his friends. I'm at home organizing and getting our house ready for when family starts arriving in October for the wedding. I have two gallon sized bags full of peeled and chopped frozen apples that we picked last fall. Any good recipes? Preferably something I can bake and then freeze and serve 7 to 8 weeks from now?

I've already used up our frozen bananas and blueberries. I just pulled buttermilk banana bkueberry bread out of the oven and put in banana brrakfast muffins (with dark chocolate chips and blueberries added).

Re: Any good apple recipes?

  • Make apple dumplings or turnovers.

    Crust

    1tsp white vinegar
    1/3 c shortening
    2 c flour
    Cinnamon to taste
    1tbsp brown sugar
1.5 tsp water (may need more or less depending on how dough is forming)

Mix the ingredients together and roll out your crust. Cut to whatever the desired shape. Fill directly woth frozen apples a sprinkle of brown sugar and cinnamon (can add a small pat of butter if you like a more buttery taste). Bake for 25-30 minutes at 375ºF or until golden brown.
  • I made a ridiculous amount of apple butter last summer. It froze pretty well. I never used a recipe though.

You could make apple pie filling and use it for tarts and pies in a few months.

  • Good question since I am planning on going apple picking in the next month. I usually just make applesauce.
  • I usually make apple pie when I go apple picking. My recipe is really just for apple filling so I should probably try putting it in things other than pie. I think that might freeze well though..

  • The apple turnovers and pre made pie filling all sound like great ideas! Thanks!
