Fondue Favorites?

OK, it's fondue night at the slothie household (yay!).  Unfortunately, H is working late which means I'm in charge of prep (boo).  What are you favorite dipping accouterments for cheese fondue?

Re: Fondue Favorites?

  • Bread. Lots of bread.

I'm also a fan of tart apples. But really just bread.

  • I'm mostly just bread too.

I prefer raclette instead.    More options.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

apples and chopped veggies! I wanna come over!
  • Bread. Definitely bread.
  • We did fondue on Saturday!!

We use whole wheat, sour dough, and pumpernickel bread.

DH also used cauliflower, carrots, and broccoli.

Bread, lots of bread as PP have stated, same with the veggies, and apples but the Melting Pot had these "dippers" or whatever, its been a while lol and they were different meats. mmmmm meat and cheese!!!! Edit: the "dippers" were Mortadella, Capicola, Salami and summer sausage joined by crisp cornichons. It was melt in your mouth amazing.

  • I agree with bread and apples. Can you get your hands on soft pretzels? I haven't had it but I feel like that would be absolutely amazeballs!!!!
  • I'm also in the apples and bread category. The raw veggies just don't do it for me.
  • I'm all about the green apples and bread! Sourdough pretzels are good too.

  • We did pretzel bread last time which was amazing. H also likes including some kind of meat when possible. Ham, sausage, whatever. I like apples.

  • Mmmm thank you ladies! I haven't had fondue since before H moved out here last year, and I couldn't remember for the life of me what we had for dippers besides bread (I love me some carbs).

Gurl, you think any assistance with
chocolate?  I'll slurp that shit up with a straw...and I have an extra one for Evil Chipmunk, if she's interested.
    ETA BOXES OMG.

  • We did asparagus, broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, bell pepper and bread recently. Bonus: you can make an awesome omelette or pasta primavera with the leftovers the next day. I know you don't need any help with the chocolate, but my friend introduced us to a revelation: donut holes! The glazed kind. I'm not even that big of a donuts, but they were awesome!

Slightly unrelated, but I tried Jack in the Box's croissant donuts last night and they were surprisingly not bad!
  • Its probably too late but I like green peppers, celery, grape tomatoes, and bread.

  • Slothie, Evil Chipmunk would LOOOOVE to come share some chocolate fondue with you. Though she's a bit perplexed as to why you'd waste perfectly good chocolate when it gets stuck in the straw- hence her "face first in bowl" idea.

    How did the fondue go?
  • I like how Evil Chipmunk thinks!  Goodbye straw, HELLO DOUBLE WIDE FONDUE POT FOR SLOTHIE/CHIPMUNK FACES.

It was yummy!  I guess I should've known better than to stress, it's hard to fuck up putting things in melted cheese.

You need to fix that ASAP!!!

DH and I incorporate our love of cheese fondue with our travels. We have had fondue all over the US and Europe!

You haven't lived. Come over to my house, we'll stick our faces into pots of cheese and drink copious amounts of wine. Then we'll do chocolate fondue with raw cookie dough.

FI asked if I wanted a cheese and/or chocolate fountain at the wedding, because he knows my love for both of these things. I told him I couldn't be trusted with that, because I would stick my face in it and ruin it for everyone, and my dress.

Can I crash this date?  Because I want to go to there.

    Cheeeeeeese.
  • Sourdough bread, grapes and tart green apples.  I love fruit with fondue more than anything else.
  • Dh and i had a chocolate fondue in place of a grooms cake at our wedding. Dipping choices included strawberries pineapple pretzels and marshmallows. We had a very simple white cake so some folks put chocolate fondue on that.

We didn't get to have fondue due to visiting with everyone, but staff at our venue put together two to go boxes of dippers two big cups of the chocolate and another box of cake for us (lunch reception following morning ceremony). We had private fondu at our hotel.

Warning - the Raclette cheese is super smelly. We have raclette parties quite often in the winter because DH is Swiss and I always have to air out the house and put some baking soda is the fridge after. It tastes so good though! And, on behalf of DH, I have to tell you that you should spend the extra money to get raclette cheese imported from Switzerland, not North American raclette cheese.

  • As cheesetastic as my life is, I have never had fondue.

I need to address that this year. Maybe I'll get birthday fondue.
