Budget - Searching for Videographer, photographer, etc.

Hey everyone! We are not getting married until next November in North Texas. But, we wanted to start searching and getting our big items done this year. We already booked our venue and a photo booth. We are still struggling to find an amazing photographer, videographer and catering that is great but affordable. We looked at George Street photography and liked them but it was around $3,500 for video and photo. Is that reasonable? Has anyone else used them? Do you have any other recommendations?

We are really struggling to locate a good catering company also. Any recommendations for catering around the McKinney area?

I appreciate your help and input in advance!

Re: Budget - Searching for Videographer, photographer, etc.

  • George Street is very good. Another one is Avant Multimedia. They are also very good. If you need a DJ and florist I have a good one for those as well!
  • Yes please! Pretty new to all of this and we are having to pay for everything ourselves with little help from others. That's why I wanted to try and research as much as possible and find the best at a great price. We really only have the venue and photo booth, still looking at all the big and small things. I just know that photo, videographer, and catering are seeming like the most expensive.
  • If you live in McKinney, I know Market Street does catering for big events at pretty reasonable prices. I would definitely set up a tasting first though because I've noticed that some food they serve tastes much better than others. Plus, you'll have to provide your own chafing dishes. But they're at least worth looking at, if you're on a budget :) They also do flowers and cakes.

Also, I haven't heard much, but I've seen that Wedding Bug has photography options for around $1000, and they have add-on options for videography. Hope this helps!
  • Knottie, For a DJ we used All Access DJ. They were amazing..and lower than most DJ companies. Their number is 972-768-7437. The owner's name is Ed Markwardt. For the florist we used Coco Fleur. Their number is 940-391-2648. The owner's name is Lisa ham. I hope that helps!
  • Thank you so much! I will definitely be looking into these this week :)
  • Hey knottie!  McKinney Catering is awesome and they are in downtown McKinney.

Sparky Sorensen is a videographer that my coordinator told me about, he used to do music videos so he has a very creative eye.  Sparky's Video Prodution 817-271-3995 he is running a super special right now, less than $1000!

DJ Connection is the best dj company I have found, ask for Tandy 972-408-6580.

Photography Erica McDonald with From The Other SIde Of The Camera is reasonable and really sweet and I love her pictures foscphotography.com

My coordinator recommended all of these folks and she has helped me save a ton of money by referring vendors with great product for a great deal!  Good luck!

The problem with DJ connection is you don't know who your DJ is until a week before the wedding..plus their price is very high. That's why I went with All Access DJ because they make sure the assigned DJ meets with the bride at the first meeting...and their price is much lower. I had nothing but a positive experience with All Access DJ..plus DJConnection is not a local company.

You can request the DJ you want from DJ Connection and they verify it with you. Tandy with DJ Connection is in Dallas, notice the 972 area code, so...he's local.
  • Walker, I was meaning their corporate office is not local. You can request the DJ but you do not get to meet with them...at least until about 2 weeks before the wedding. I looked into them DJing my wedding. I guess what turned me off is when I asked what they do to keep the guests engaged their answer was "we play line dances". That was not the right answer. That just showed me they were not interactive.

we were on a budget too I listed all my vendors in a post (vendor view of my may wedding) I highly recommend my florist, Dj and Videographer

my florist (he is a photographer too) http://www.fountaindesigns.info/

    my Dj   http://melmemdj.com/

    and videographers  http://www.lbfilmproductions.com/

    here is our video

  • http://amberlanellphotography.com/ is from mckinney area...she just started doing weddings and very reasonable
  • $3500 for photography and video is actually pretty reasonable
  • For videography we were referred to Rivero Productions. She has more detailed package info on the website, but for 2 videographers 7 hrs it is only $1200 & you get a highlight video plus edited video of ceremony & other special moments on DVDs. There are other add ons like extra hours, extra requested footage (like a dance party chapter on DVD), etc.

    http://www.riveroproductions.com

We are using Cottonwood road photography for photos, & the cost of photo & video added together come in under $3500 for us. Cottonwood roads package was also 7 hrs 2 shooters.

I got info from LB films & Lorena Burns, they both seem to do excellent work similar to the vendors we chose, but their prices were a bit higher than the ones we chose (just $200-500 more, but that made a difference for us).
  • By the way, the pricing info for each of those vendors was gathered within the last 6 weeks
  • I used Valentina Vladi for our videography and I was NOT disappointed.  She was REALLY inexpensive and she LOVES her job.  She was recommended by my planner, and I think it was $1,200 for 6 hours of coverage.  She did an awesome trailer, full edited everything, and when we ordered additional copies for our families, it was really affordable.  I cannot say enough good things about her work.  It surpassed my expectations - I love watching the highlight reel... and given how unhappy I am with our photographs, I'm REALLY glad I have the video.  It was worth the splurge and I'm thankful my planner talked me into it.

    Our highlights are here:  http://valentinavladi.com/sara-and-thomas-wedding-video.html
  • Thanks everyone!! I will definitely be checking these out :)

Also in another post someone mentioned looking into Epic Photography. I called them last week and they were more expensive than George Street and didn't come with a photo book, just a disc. For Videography and photography it was over 5K. Also, you don't get the meet anyone until the day of the wedding and that really bothered us. We asked to set up a follow up appointment in a few days to review things over in more details on the packages, and they never called. We weren't able to get back in touch with them after that. Just a heads up in case anyone is looking into them.
  • 3500 is a great price for photography & video! Many photographers charge just that for their craft and same for videographers.

I like to add videography and photography in all my packages, I have a destination wedding week long coverage package of a video of your wedding day/week and I would capture your wedding day and week (walks, trash the dress session, dinners etc) For more information you can see my offer at www.torontoweddingphotographs.ca and go to the destination wedding pricing section.

Make sure you are in love with your photographers style, and video production. Everyone has different taste and every photographer captures the wedding day differently. I love capturing the story with both mediums of photography and videography.

All the best in planning your wedding! You will love your dream week away.

You should take a look at Lavishly Lux Studio and OBrown Weddings
  • @ajisraelwedding I am also looking at Cottonwood photography - what all was included in your edding package....engagement shoot also?
  • @kyoung1609 Cottonwood road photography is amazing!! Going to shoot you a private message about what's included :)
  • For my DJ, I used Figment Productions!  They were awesome and at a reasonable price.  It comes as a husband/wife duo, and for 5 hours, I paid about $1,050.  The husband is the DJ, and the wife is essentially a day of coordinator, so if that is something else you were thinking of booking, it is taken care of, and they were GREAT to work with!

  • Stephanie Rose Photographer - We paid $1300. She's been featured in Brides of North Texas, Style Me Pretty, Wedding Chicks to name a few. She's a little hard to get a hold of, but her work is amazing and well worth the price. We received all photos on a USB and print rights. Also, access to all photos for a year on an online gallery. We had her for about 7 hours on the day of the wedding.
  • We just booked Picturesque Photo and Video for our August 2015 wedding.  Its a husband and wife team with a beautiful wedding portfolio.  We are getting 8 hours of photography and videography, all of our pictures edited on a CD with print release, an edited video of the day in a beautiful DVD case, all for $2400.  Obviously, we haven't used them yet, but we are really excited to work with them.
