This is my guess as well.

Because selecting figure-flattering dresses is too hard! I mean, they only come in hundreds of different styles!

I may not be in love with the shade of dress I'll be wearing next year, but I sighed a big sigh when my friend told me she picked it out with the bridesmaid who has a baby - she's short, plus-sized, busty, and has other priorities for her money than a nosebleed dress.
So I know I'll get something I that will be flattering and affordable.

This was my guess.

Though, I probably wouldn't turn anyone down for buying me a good bra.  Size H is both hard to find and expensive.  lol

I had a friend who B-listed me has a BM, then picked a some-what strapless dress (she did pay for mine since I was cash poor and it was short notice), it had sleeves that went on the arms, not the shoulders. I tried a strapless bra, but after just having a baby, I wasn't comfortable with the ladies hanging so low (I was on the bigger side). I didn't have time to alter the dress either due to being OOT and just getting in 2 days prior. I used my normal bra, pinned the sleeves to it, and went like that. She dealt with it. Needless to say we don't talk anymore. 

You can pick your friends, and you can pick your nose, but you can't pick your friends nose. Same goes with their underwear. Just sayin'.

Most of the time, shapewear gives me more rolls than I have naturally. I would decline and continue to wear a thong and no bra like I often do under fancy dresses.

I'm with PPs on not turning down a free bra, but ask me to wear shapewear and I may just have a panic attack. I don't do tight well.

I would love a free bra!  And shapewear!  I have a piece of shapewear that's basically a tube from hip to just under the bust.  It works great just standing around, but sitting at all, it likes to ride up, so I really need one with a crotch piece.  I'll hint to the bride that those kind are the best and then, free shapewear!
