Kitchen Aid Standing Mixer

We got a standing mixer (one of the big expensive ones) but I am not sure what to make in it. I make cakes, brownies etc but never have enough batter to make it worth using the mixer.

Any suggestions?

Re: Kitchen Aid Standing Mixer

  • I've learned to make cake and brownies in it anyway because it's faster and easier clean up.

Around the holidays I do double batches of cookies. I also make a bitchin pumpkin roll.

  • You could make a double batch and then freeze some of the dough.

  • I have a 6 quart kitchenaid mixer, so slightly bigger than the original model, and I use it for a majority of the cake batters, frosting, cookies etc I did before and still do the same amount. It works great. I also like using it to make dough for bread or cinnamon rolls. I suck at making brownies, can't seem to ever get them to taste right so after much trying I have fallen back to the box. I do not use my mixer for that haha

  • You can do so many wonderful things with a kitchenaid stand mixer! With the proper attachments, you can make pasta, ravioli, sausage, ice cream, etc. You can also transform it into a food processor and due to its rpms you can whip cream really quickly. If you love to cook/bake, those mixers are a god send. The only issue is that you have to spend extra on the attachments and most of them are not cheap.
  • Yeast breads.  This can be anything from cinnamon rolls to pizza dough to doughnuts and more.

I don't have a stand mixer yet, so I make these things with the hook attachments for my electric mixer combined with lots of hand kneading.  I cannot wait to have a stand mixer for those jobs!

  • Mashed potatoes! There are also tons of great attachments. I have the pasta press and I absolutely love it.
  • I use my stand mixer for everything. It replaced a hand mixer from Walgreens. I especially like making pizza dough for calzones. The recipe it comes with my husband tried and he hated it but my usual recipe went just fine. WAY less hand-kneading, which is great for me.

Also, the better homes and gardens cookbook I have has a great chocolate chip cookie recipe. I replace half the chips with Reese's peanut butter chips and send them into work with my husband or take them to mine to sweeten up the coworkers because it makes a ton.
  • I've made brownies. I've also made frosting a marshmallow frosting.

Two weeks ago I made whole wheat pizza dough, it came out great.

  • I make meringues way more than a normal person should, because they're so simple now.

  • I've used my Kitchen Aid mixer to do pancake batter just for an excuse to use it.  lol

  • Pancake batter should be stirred as little as possible and a mixer is not a good tool for making them. Always mix them by hand with a fork or wooden spoon and its okay if the batter is a little lumpy.
  • I love meringue cookies. The stand mixer is the easiest tool for them. Everyone loves them and they're not awful for you.

  • I love my Kitchen Aid, and have about seven attachments for it.  We make a lot of sausage, pasta, and ice-cream.  We also make a little bit of bread, but that one needs watching as it can stress the motor.

It's really quick for mixing cake and brownie batter, and it's a lot more simple to clean than other machines with dual whisks.

  • I do just about all my baking in my kitchen aid.  And yes to the mashed potatoes!  Makes whipping them so much easier!  I recommend getting the self-wiping mixer blade.  You don't have to stop and wipe down the sides of the bowl.  I can get cake batters and cookies in the over much faster now.
  • We use ours to make mashed potatoes, icing, brownies, breads, and cake. It's great to use when trying to mix ingredients for casseroles, we just use the slow setting for that and it turns out great.

  • Pizza! Our smaller kitchen aid was not up to the task, but the nice 600 model is perfect for home made dough.

  • Thanks everyone!
  • There's a smaller bowl available as well. It comes with a smaller attachment.
