Wedding Woes

Morning!

How was the weekend?  The good news is it's already Tuesday.

Saturday we braved Chuck E. Cheese.  We got there at 10:30 and stayed until 1.  The only meltdown was M2 wanting carrots instead of pizza, but really that's nothing.  We had a good time.

Sunday we visited DH's grandpa.  M2 had said before we left that she was afraid of Great Grandpa.  It made me sad, but I understand.  On good days he's in a wheelchair, but he's been in the bed several times.  He's had a lot of strokes so his head lolls and his speech is terrible, plus there always seems to be some bandages.  He was actually having a good day and Great Grandma sat on the floor rolling a ball with the kids so they were having a blast.  Overall it turned out better than I expected.  We spent the rest of the day visiting people.

Yesterday I convinced the kids to spend 2 hrs helping me clean and sort their rooms.  The purged SO MUCH STUFF.  I sold off 2 dresses and a diaper genie (people are strange.  a used poop can?!) and DH sold off a set of surround sound speakers.  We did some yardwork and I hung a bunch of pictures.

Tonight is preschool open house.  Wednesday is soccer.  Thursday is M2's first day of preschool!!  Fun week.

Re: Morning!

  • Weekend was great.

I was feeling almost normal by Friday, so yay.

We got to the farm and set up camp.  SIL and I went to the store to get some odds and ends that were needed for camping (mostly food and drinks).  It stormed Friday early evening and our tent held up well to some nasty wind and possible hail.  It rained on and off Friday night and we stayed dry.

Saturday, the kids were swimming by 9am (it was only 69).  After lunch we all went for a swim.  The kids all went to bed super early on Saturday night because they were all quite water-logged.

Sunday, more of the same.  We did pack up camp early and get as much done as possible because we thought we were going to get a big storm early yesterday morning.  We were up at 5:30am and rolled out by 8:15am.  The storm never hit, but I was not sad to get home early.  We ate a late lunch, unpacked slowly, and I was falling asleep by 10pm last night.

DefConn LOVED peeing on trees and the soybeans.  He also had to have a daily tractor ride.  The kiddo brought a friend and they spent the weekend shooting their bb and pellet guns all over the place.  DH and I spent an hour or so on Saturday floating off by ourselves in the pond and talking.

House drama side-note:  Our seller has decided to be a wank and wants us to pay the taxes and 'carrying costs' for his inconvenience in moving the close by a month.  My mom's going to see if our buyers mortgage company will cut us a check for this BS because it was their eff up, but we may have to pony up.  It's not an amount worth losing the house over, but it's just the principle of the matter.  We did drive by the house yesterday.  I cannot wait for this drama to be over and we can move. Now that we have no distractions between now and closing, I'm more than ready to move on.
  • The weekend was pretty awesome.

I booked the other hotel for our trip next weekend and took some time to go out shopping by myself.

Friends were in town so we had people over Sunday night.  We haven't been all together in almost 2 years, so it was a huge deal.  And then I drank too much and had to go to bed before they all left.

Yesterday I didn't leave the house.  I actually never got out of my pajamas.  I loved every minute of it.
  • Friday night we went out with friends from OOT for an early anniversary celebration.

Saturday, DH worked and I spent most of the day in my pajama and clearing out the dvr.  In the evening we went out to dinner with my Mom & sister who was here from out of state and then hung at Mom's for awhile.

Sunday DH worked so Mom, sis and I did church and then went to cemeteries to retrieve planters. We stopped for lunch in my dad's hometown and ran into some longtime family friends at the restaurant.  We had a good visit.  We ended up at the campground visiting my brother's family, eating lots of good food and huddling in the camper during a downpour.

Yesterday I did laundry and got organized for the week.  DH is off today and it's our 8th anniversary so we are going on dinner "date" tonight.

  • Happy anniversary, MNNE!
  • Uneventful weekend! Husband had friends over on Sunday to play Magic and I spent most of the day studying pathophysiology and religion.

Yesterday was pretty much all patho and watching Marvel movies or Trigun. I also got into a Facebook fight with someone who calls herself Mz Unique Nailz because she posted about a breast cancer event that happened yesterday and I said that it was still childhood (and thyroid, lymphoma, leukemia, ovarian) cancer awareness month and that October is when all the pinkwashing is supposed to take place. She said I was a sad person. Whatever, I ain't give a damn, I will never feel bad about calling people out for only recognizing female breast cancer as something to raise money for, and I will never say nice things about Komen.

Today, I'm sitting at work waiting for shit to hit the fan. It's gonna be a crazy day.

  • Summer is over, y'all.  I always get to this point where I'm half sad to see it go, and half relieved.  As much fun as the pool and travel and everything are, it will be nice to slow down a bit.

Neighborhood pool party was a lot of fun.  The HOA had barbecue catered and brought in a Kona Ice truck, which is the most useful thing I've ever seen an HOA do, so that was cool.  Last hurrah for the pool for this season.

Birthday party was kind of meh, but DD liked the cake and ice cream, so I think it was ultimately a win for her.

DS is done with amoxicillin, thank the heavens above.  He was cracking me up this morning--he got up at 4:52 for whatever insane reason (teeth, maybe?).  When it was clear that he wasn't going back to sleep on his own and was ratcheting up his fussing, I went to get him.  I was patting his back and saying "Shhhhh," and he kept trying to imitate me:  "Sssssss, sssssss."  So sweet and adorable, but Mommy doesn't play before 6:00, kid.  I can't believe he's going to be 1 in just over a month.

Oh, and we had a hummingbird trapped in our garage.  We noticed it flying along the ceiling yesterday afternoon, and I tried every trick I could find on Google:  placing red objects near the open garage door, trying to guide it out with a broom, you name it.  Nothing was working.  After the kids went to bed, I thought it had flown out, but then I saw it sitting on one of our shelves.  Poor thing.  I was so afraid I was going to find it dead on my car this morning, but when I went to leave, I couldn't find it anywhere.  I hope it just waited out the night in the garage, and then when the sun came up it followed the light and made it home okay.  I'm going to believe that, anyway.

  • Our camping trip was kind of blah.  The park we went to is really meant for people who want to fish.  The hiking trails were only so-so.  And we will not be camping with the couple we went with again.  I do not have the patience to deal wit habitually late people.  I should've known better, really.

I also think I've caught a cold.  But I don't want to use my sick time, so blah.
  • Weekend was mostly "meh".

Friday I did very little-took H dinner, went to bed early.

Saturday-Ran my 18 miles *phew* Personal victory for that one.  3 hours of solitude.  I suppose some would call it moving meditation---and I remember why I like running so much---and don't mind running by myself.  It's kinda nice in a weird loner way.  Saturday afternoon, mom and I went and got our toes and nails done.  She was thrilled because she's never done that and my 'rents are going on a trip for 3 weeks so she was happy to have something "fresh" for the trip.

Sunday-10k that went way better than I expected. I ran gps-less and really just was happy to be moving and not feeling horrible after the long run Saturday.  Sunday evening was dinner with the family and then visiting friends at their camp site and having a few drinks.  Tried to stay up for H when he would return home after midnight---failed on that one.  Which caused a minor kerfluffle with H.  Oops?

Monday-truly a lay day.  Grocery run, housekeeping---reading.  That was my day.

H finally has a day off but he has honor guard this evening so really?  Not much of a time to see him.  Oh well---running after work it is!
  • M2's preschool parent orientation is at 8 pm tonight.  Grrrr.  I don't want to be out that late.  Grrrr I'm old.

  • This weekend was a waste of 3 days off. I was still recovering from being sick (and still am). DD is teething and I've been bit a couple of times in retaliation for not letting her chew on crayons, the stairs, the dog's tail, etc. DS seems to be coming down with what I have but is a trooper.

I am ready for this week to be over already. DH has an interview Wednesday for a higher level position, and will be working late each night. So I'm on my own each night. A bunch of BS at work as well.

On the bright side, my new makeup brushes are coming.
  • DK is back in Canada until Friday (left Sunday), and we have plans every night, so this week is a little stressful. We got to have a date on Saturday before he left, so that was nice. Wolverine and I just hung out at home the last 2 days - we watched the Simpsons marathon for part of the time, and she's now a Simpsons fan.

Wolverine was asking if we could invite my friend and her son for a play date, so we're taking the kids to Monkey Joe's, tonight. The son is in Wolverine's Pre-K class, and they're BFF - it's very cute.
Tomorrow is our normal gymnastics class. Wolverine still loves the class, and it's great to see how far she's come since last November.

Thursday is "curriculum night" for our preschool. They're offering free childcare during the event so I'm planning to attend. They haven't been great with communication lately, so it will be interesting to see how the event goes. (e.g. first day of pre-k was 8/25. DK asked why some kids were in uniform on 8/27 at pickup. apparently they sent a text message to the parents who were signed up for a texting service, while we were on vacation. my reply: they have a texting service? why didn't the send an e-mail? why isn't there a dress code/uniform info page on the website?" I'm still annoyed about this as the uniform shirts aren't cheap ($18+/ea), and it's next to impossible to find "acceptable" pants/shorts in T sizes - and I'm flat out refusing to order $15 shorts from their catalogue.)
