DIY-ing Wedding Dress???

Hey guys! I've got a vintage wedding dress that I'm completely gutting and restoring. Has anybody else been as insane as I am? If so I'd love your tips/stories. Also, if you care to see the dress...it has it's own blog. http://remakingthegown.wordpress.com/

Re: DIY-ing Wedding Dress???

  • I have a DIY dress but nothing like that! Good luck. My grandma made my dress from a couple of patterns we liked.

    When is your wedding?
  • February 28, 2015 :) I should get the dress back from the cleaner by the end of September, so that gives me about four and a half months to get it finished.
  • I bought a dress that was very plain and DIY'd a sweetheart neckline, DIY'd a sash, sewed on some fabric buttons and I *might* sew some trim along the neckline (most likely not). I also took in the bust myself. That was enough of an undertaking for me and I'm having the dress steamed at a dry cleaner. I've sewn dresses before so I lucked out that the alterations I needed weren't complicated but it's not a route I recommend for everyone.

Good luck with you dress! I love the idea of restoring a dress.

  • There was a lady on the DIY board who was sewing her own @HaileyDancingbear‌ I believe.

My little sister sewed her own as well. She got the pattern and fabric from Joanns.
