October 2014 Weddings

How much of this weekend will be spent on wedding-related activities?

I have a shower on Sunday, and that's all I'm allowing myself. I kind of feel like I'm losing myself to all this wedding stuff. It's an obsession, frankly.

Is anyone else having a hard time finding a healthy balance? I know I'm driving FI crazy with all of the questions.

Re: How much of this weekend will be spent on wedding-related activities?

  • Tomorrow is my shower/bachelorette so that is all I'm probably going to be doing as well.

I would LIKE if FI would finally look over alternate vows I came up with so I can let the officiant know which ones we want to use.  I would LIKE if he would finally get his drivers license photo taken so we can go get our marriage license.  I think I'm going to make a general things to do list for some WR stuff, that seemed to work with him last time around instead of asking him all of the time.

Have a wonderful time at your shower, @TeddiD34!!

  • I have a couple DIY projects I need to finish up, but otherwise I'm not doing much. Things are definitely slowing down, but I know they'll just pick back up again the week or two before the wedding.

  • My shower is tomorrow, and I'll also be contacting our officiant because I still haven't heard from him about how the ceremony is going to go and what he is planning on saying!

  • We're going shopping for a MOB dress for my mom tomorrow. Otherwise I really need to focus on organizing our basement. I'm not sure if that counts as WR or not but I'm motivated to have it done before the wedding and all of our guests arrive. :)

  • We're picking up FI & BM suits, I'm not sure what all that will entail.  I know FI still needs shoes too, so we might just get him all taken care of.  Tonight I'm hoping to go out and find a 'wedding fragrance' and maybe a lip stain or something; even though I'm having my makeup done, I want to make sure I have a lip color that doesn't transfer and have it to continue the evening on.

@Dignity100 - you had inspired me when you mentioned before about choosing a wedding fragrance. I had FI with me and we selected one together this past weekend. It's DKNY Be Delicious - it has the green apples on the packaging and I thought it was appropriate for fall and loved the scent. But, I chose a roller ball (the sprays bother my allergies) and it had two different scents, one on each end. I ended up liking the Golden Delicious even more, so did FI, so now I have two new scents I love. Plus with the roller ball I will be able to pack it for the honeymoon, too! (ETA: Imagine a paragraph break here) Also, I had purchased a lip color from Chanel that is a long-wearing almost stain with a clear gloss to cover (they do not transfer at all). I returned it because it was just way too pink and that was the lightest shade they had...it was like a bubble gum pink. She showed me how to put on their regular lipstick/liner so it had staying power, so I bought one of their moisturizing lipsticks instead. Basically, you use a sponge eye shadow applicator to apply face powder to your lips. Then line your lips with liner, then apply the lipstick with a lip brush...this supposedly helps with the lasting power vs just applying from the tube. Then, you repeat those same steps one more time. I haven't really tested it out yet, but I'm really pleased with the color and how moist the lipstick is. Maybe I'm just a sucker, though...I tend to be that way with cosmetics.
  • I need to bake cookies and work on more stupid DIY centerpiece stuff. I'll probably spend most of Sunday afternoon on wedding stuff. Tomorrow we're going to a vintage and made fair, which I'm counting as wedding stuff, since I'm going simply because they might have something I *need* for the wedding ha
  • I'm "on call" all weekend, which is the worst, but I'll probably be able to do a little bit of shopping. I'm just going to be looking for an outfit for my bachelorette party, and if FI has some time, we might go pick out our wedding fragrances this weekend. Oh and there are always more DIY projects to do. I swear I'll probably just keep making up new projects for myself until the day of the wedding. Oh and I neeeeeed to work out Saturday and Sunday because I haven't been on weekends, and I've been using the weekends to eat what ever I want. I only have 18 days until my final fitting, so I better get serious!!!
  • I have my shower tomorrow, but that is about it. I need to schedule another day to have my friend come over and finish my dress and we have three final meetings with vendors coming up in the next couple weeks. I am just so ready to be done. We sent out invites two weeks ago and as of yesterday we have only gotten 12 back of 54 invites!!.. Its ridiculous and I wish people would get on it!

  • I wrapped everything up in August except a few ongoing email discussions with vendors, so hopefully just a couple hours at a shower and then thank you's tomorrow, and nothing else!
  • We're picking songs for the ceremony and reception, finalizing our picks for the ceremony, and hopefully doing some thrift store shopping for decor.  Oh... and hopefully tracking down a few more bakeries to check out wedding cookies.

Lots to do!  Jealous of you ladies that don't have much left, but I did take it pretty easy this Spring so I knew I'd have things left in the Fall.  Luckily my wedding is at the end of October :)
  • I am taking my ring to be cleaned and have the prongs checked (I know at least one is loose because when I hold the ring to my ear and shake it, I can hear the diamond rattling around in the setting). Monday FH and I took a half day and we are getting our license. Then I have a dress fitting!! So - I'm doing a lot of WR stuff :)

  • My friend and I ended up at Ulta which is not my favorite (I've decided I suck too much at being a girl for Ulta).  I asked the lady about finding a lip color that would stay on my lips and not end up elsewhere and she just stared at me like I was a crazy-woman!  Then I asked for help finding a fragrance because I thought they'd KNOW their products and they had like a gazillion to choose from - I said 'something more earthy, nothing flowery or too sweet' - they gave me flowery sweet fragrance after flowery sweet fragrance.  The only one I liked was Viva La Juicy by Juicy Couture.  So I'm going to go to Sephora and see if I have better luck there, they've always been helpful in the past.

Even try the make up counter and fragrance counter at Nordy's because you are gonna pay the same price wherever you go for products like that. Nordy's has great customer service.

  • @Dignity100‌ I agree that you may have better help at Sephora. I shop at Ulta and it's really hit or miss with how knowledgeable and helpful they can be. I have always had very helpful women when I go to Sephora. Good luck!! People at places like Nordstroms or Macys can be helpful with fragrances. But for makeup, they are all pretty much into selling their own brand so it's hard to get someone with knowledge of all brands. Although a Clinique girl at macys told me to try the Chanel lipstick I originally bought, she said Clinique doesn't have anything with that kind of staying power. So I was pleasantly surprised she was honest with me about it. She said she was going to use it for her wedding next year.
  • I had my shower on Saturday (shower #1) and then I took my little sister to the state fair yesterday....I woke up 45 mins late this morning for work! I guess I burnt myself out this weekend lol!! Definitely won't be doing that this next weekend because I have shower #2 to attend!
