Father Daughter Dance?

I'm sick of researching songs for our father daughter dance so I'm polling for ideas.

I was thinking about "Daughters" by John Mayer as an option. I was originally going to go with "It's a Wonderful World" but it seems sooooo overdone and typical and my dad and I don't have the sort of country song "daddy's little girl" relationship either. We're super close...I just don't look at him in that way.

So what is everyone else doing? HELP ME!!!

Re: Father Daughter Dance?

  • We were planning on doing a combined dance to 'Beauty and the Beast'. What about 'Somewhere over the Rainbow"? 'Little Miss Magic' by Jimmy Buffet? 'Landslide' by Fleetwood Mac? 'Forever Young' by Bob Dylan

  • I LOVE the "Daughters" song!
My dad and I are doing "Brown Eyed Girl". He used to sing that to me when I was a little girl, because I have brown eyes. I've always wanted to dance with him to that song.

  • We're doing a combined father/daughter mother/son dance. I told fiance to pick because I'm so over music that I just don't even care right now. He's mentioned a couple songs by George Strait (the breath you take and where have i been all my life). My dad and I have a strange relationship. We get along great, but we're not super close, we're not an overly emotional or mushy family, so picking a song for this dance is hard. So it's fiance's problem now :)
  • I had one for me and my grandfather and now I am thinking about something else. I originally wanted Here Come's the Sun by the Beatles but now I am considering an accoustic version of I'll Be There for You because Friends is our favorite show.

  • We are doing Somewhere Over the Rainbow. My dad and I both love The Wizard of Oz, as does my daughter -- who is going to be dancing with HER dad (aka the groom) at the same time. It's a good song for all of us :)
  • We are doing My Girl by the Temptations :)

    Thanks everyone!

I think I may have just found the perfect sound (better than Daughters) - Wildflowers by Tom Petty!

Waiting on my dad's feedback on this one but at least I have some options now! I don't know why this is so friggen hard!

  • I was just going to suggest Wildflowers by Tom Petty! Absolutely love that song!
  • I'm using Zoe Jane by Staind (first 3 minutes) It's the only one I found that didn't seem too sappy!
  • My Dad and I are actually dancing to What a wonderful world. He chose it because we danced to it at his wedding when i was 4 and i guess it means a lot to him I didn't realize it was "overdone"

I didn't realize it was overdone either....

  • My father isn't invited, and if I leave it to my stepdad we'll end up with a country song that always makes me cry.  Holy Water by BIg & Rich, I think it is?  Because my mom always says it reminds her of me.  So, I may need to borrow some ideas from here to avoid that.
  • My dad suggested "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" by Israel Kamakawiwoʻole, so that's what we are doing!
  • i let my dad choose :) we will be dancing to the first half, then my fiance and his mom will join us for the second.

  • Isn't she Lovely by Stevie Wonder.

My dad heard this song play in the hospital before I was born, so he knew I was going to be a girl :)

  • We don't really want the spotlight on us for the dances so my FMIL suggested we do what she did at her wedding: Instead of choosing indv. songs for each VIP dance, have my dad cut in after a minute of dancing our first song, and then have FI go get FMIL to dance with too. That way there isn't 10 mins of VIP dances, and we won't be dancing alone the whole time.
