Thursday Chatter

Morning, ladies! One more day until Friday.

So, today is 9/11. I can't believe it's been 13 years. I know everyone handles it differently but I needed to at least acknowledge it. My aunt worked for the company who lost a ton of people in the WTC and she survived so I spend most of today thinking about her, the victims, and everyone else who lost their loved ones on that day.

On a much, much lighter note, I have an appointment with my doctor later today about my ankle so I should only have to wear das boot for roughly another 8 hours which is a huge relief.

Re: Thursday Chatter

  • @Swazzle -Yay for getting your boot off soon!

I will always remember 9/11 because I didn't even realize what had occurred until I got home that day. I knew something was different because kids were being checked out of school left and right and my teachers were all in a frenzy. I remember my mom telling me what had happened and that there would be a possibility that our dad, who had very recently retired from the Army, could be called back into duty. That scared the crap out of me. Also, my Dad worked in the Pentagon for a time and thinking about if he had still been working there during that tragedy I don't know what I would have done. Luckily, the never was summoned but hearing about this tragedy just made my heart sink that there could be so much hatred from people to commit such an act.

Today I need to go to the cleaners to get my BM dress altered a bit, the hem is a little long and I'm getting made into a strapless dress. The straps are entirely too long as well so they would have been messed with anyways. Afterwards I'm doing  Hero WOD in honor of the people who lost their lives on 9/11.

  • @Swazzle - I woke up this morning thinking about the 9/11 anniversary!  it is such a sad day.  I'm thankful that we haven't had another awful event like that in the USA since then, but a little worried (paranoid?) that maybe something is planned for today.  ugh!

I am glad you don't have to wear the boot much longer!!

looks like H's company is going to cover me on their benefits on the basis of hardship and inadequate coverage.  I am SO THANKFUL.  now we are just trying to decide which plan we want.

H and I had a big disagreement last night.  it boils down to he was feeling neglected and jealous because I'm studying so much, and I'm feeling overwhelmed because he quit contributing to things (chores, etc.)  so we got it all out.  H is going to really step it up over the next 10 weeks or so.  this is a one-time thing and there is a lot riding on me passing the exam the first time.  my boss's boss's boss is counting on me to do it, and there is probably a big bonus/promotion/raise in the works if I do.  and if he is taking over some of my responsibilities, I'll have more time after studying to spend time with him.  we both went to bed (late) feeling like it was resolved...  but I am dragging today!!  I stopped by Starbucks and got a grande cappuccino with an extra shot and chugged it.  just gotta make it through today, but my schedule is PACKED.  *sigh*
  • @southernpeach89 - I want to see pics!

@CocoBellaF - I'm glad that you were able to talk to your H last night and both of you got you're feelings out! I know you were feeling frustrated about the household duties situation yesterday.

  • @Swazzle - I am glad, too!  it was not pretty because we both were angry but we managed to each give our POV and come to a compromise...  he'll take up more of my chores, and I'll be sure to spend time with him (he is a quality time person).  WHEW.  just wish we didn't have to stay up so late arguing about it!  this girl needs some sleep.
  • @swazzle yay hopefully you are boot free tonight!

I wish today would just be a national holiday so I can hide under my blankets.....it's gets me so emotional and stressed. It's hard to explain.... I guess if I didn't witness so much,it probably wouldn't bother me.  I just worry I'll have nightmares tonight... joy...

So if I get an eye infection next week, please remind of this day.  When I got to the bathroom I found my contact shrivled dry on my counter. I guess it never made it into the case and I didn't notice, so I spent 10 minutes with saline solution coaxing it back to life.  It was a brand new one too so I wasn't going to replace it. I should be semi busy at work today so I hope the day goes by fast.

    Anniversary

  • I'm such a crappy mood today. It could be partly because of the 9/11 anniversary...but I've just been feeling down/crabby/whatever all week long. I know I need to suck it up and get over it but whenever I get home from work I just want to have a glass of wine and read my book and not do or think about anything else.

Yesterday was the first day we didn't receive an RSVP back in the mail. Our due date isn't til September 24th but we're still waiting on over 80 responses (not sure how many response cards that works out to). It really frustrates me because it's not just out of town people, but also local people so I don't understand why it's so hard for them to just stick the card in the mail. On the plus side, we did receive seriously 4 packages from Macy's yesterday. One of my BMs and her mom apparently went on a shopping spree and bought us a bunch of wedding gifts! I've been so overwhelmed by her and her family's generosity. We got a roasting rack, the rest of the towels we registered for, an ice cream scoop (cause we seriously didn't own one until now!), and a digital food scale (yay!).

  • @Swazzle - Great news about the boot!!

I cannot believe it's been 13 years since 9/11. Such a sad, sad day. I was on a field trip to the Orlando Museum of Art with my Lit class, and we had to cut our trip short and head back to school. It was crazy. It still saddens me to think of all of the innocent lives lost that day. I remember visiting ground zero after and you could still smell it. Chills me to think about it.

We had our FPU class last night which was good. It was a crazy evening of running around. I decided to get baptized (or as my DD's like to say "bapanatized". And then we met with the pastor to go over our plans for Saturday. We ended up staying up really late last night and now I'm tired and just want to crawl back in bed! Thankfully it's my Friday today!

  • @Swazzle - I hope you get to kiss that boot goodbye! Except please don't actually kiss it, it's been all over the ground and that would be revolting.

@CocoBellaF - Glad you and your H got that all sorted out. Last thing you need on top of regular work and PMP work!

Even as a non-American 9/11 is a sad day. I had a friend who lost a parent in New York, and I remember feeling so helpless while all of the footage played over and over and over again. It's one of the first, if not THE first, big event that people from our generation remember happening; my thoughts are with all of you lovely American ladies today.

Today I am the conductor of the tired train. The fire alarm went off in my apartment building a 3:30 this morning...so I had to trudge downstairs, wait around for half an hour, and then walk back up to my apartment because the elevators weren't coming back into service right away. Then it went off again briefly at 5:30. So I was late for work today and am cranky and want to mainline my tea.

I'm hoping for an uneventful day at work, and then FI and I are just hanging out at my place tonight. I need to do laundry and I really want to bake, so I'm hoping for a relaxing evening.

  • @Peaseblossom55 - Ugh I do not miss having contacts. Have you considered getting LASIK?

@LaPeanut1018 - We got a bunch of RSVPs right after sending them and then a couple here and there and then A TON right before and the day of/day after our RSVP by date. It's frustrating, I hear ya. Try not to think about it too much until a couple days after your RSVP by date. Some people think that date means "put it in the mail by". Yay for wedding gifts!!!!! Oh also, what are you reading?

@Ollie08 - Um.... you are getting MARRIED in TWO DAYS! EEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!

@lmcooper86 - That is SO annoying. Was it going off for any particular reason or was it just a defect?

  • @Swazzle I've been wanting to tell you about it! I'm reading The Circle by Dave Eggers. It's about a woman who goes to work for a social media company that is like Facebook on steroids. I'm not sure exactly where the book is taking me yet...but it's kind of scary how super plugged in she is to everything! The book is really interesting!

  • @swazzle I've considered it but contacts don't really bother me I worry about the long term effects of it as my eyes get worse when I'm older.  Not to mention yuck a laser beam to the eye.

    Anniversary

  • @Swazzle - Apparently it was a faulty sensor. Which meant that they had to replace the sensor before the system could fully restart, which meant no elevators right away. The view is great from my 24th floor apartment, but soooooo many stairs!!! I assume the few bleeps at 5:30 were after they had finished installing the new sensor. Irritating for sure, and my poor cat didn't come out from under the bed until I got up to get ready for work :(

@LaPeanut1018 - Yay for wedding gifts!!

  • @LaPeanut1018 - Oohhhhh that sounds good! I just added it to my list. Are you on GoodReads?

@Peaseblossom55 - Gotcha. Well if you ever decide to consider it, I had it done 3 (or was it 4?) years ago and can tell you all about it :)

@lmcooper86 - Oh man, my animals go absolutely INSANE from the smoke detectors. Lucy barks and both cats look like:

And then they run as fast as they possibly can to hide under something.

  • @Swazzle I am but I am NOT active on it at all. I could try to be...I've just never been really good at keeping up with it.

  • @CocoBellaF - I'm so glad you're able to get on your H's insurance! And that you two were able to work things out last night. Hopefully the next 10 weeks will pass very quickly.

@Swazzle - I KNOW, RIGHT?! TWO FREAKING DAYS.

  • @CocoBellaF Yay for getting on H's insurance plan! I'm sorry you guys had such a rough night, but I'm glad you were able to resolve everything. Hopefully the next 10 weeks fly by for you!

@Ollie08 Ahhh two days!!!! Also, what's going on with your ring? I apologize if I overlooked a post on it.

@LePeanut1018 Yay for wedding gifts! That's so exciting! I bet it all feels so REAL now! Also... a digital scale is a great idea. Totally jotting that down on my list of things to register for.

@lmcooper86 Oh wow, I would be so stabby today if my fire alarm went of twice. And holy crap, 24th floor? I guess you got your exercise in for the day, geez. Hopefully work is calm today and you're able to relax tonight.

@swazzle Crossing my fingers that the boot can come off!

Ah, the 9/11 anniversary is freaking me out this year. I was 13 when it happened, and this is the 13th anniversary... just seems weird to think this happened half my life ago when it still feels so fresh. I didn't know anyone who was killed, but I remember feeling like the world was going to end any day. I remember teachers assigning us homework but we all basically thought it was pointless because we didn't know what would happen in the following days. It's all so surreal. And then the anthrax scares happened right after that too. It was all so scary.

My boss is out today because her mother had surgery last night that did not go well. She was having a hinge put in her knee, and after the procedure the doctors were unable to wake her up... they think she had a heart attack. Now she's in ICU, and I'm not sure what their plan is. My poor boss. I really hope her mom recovers. :(

On a fun note, my coworker's sister works at Coach, and over the next few days they're getting rid of a bunch of stuff, so it's going 65-75% off for employees. I'm going to check out some wristlets at potential BM gifts... even thought we're waaaaaaay early. 75% off though would be so awesome.

  • @swazzle - HOORAY FOR NO BOOT!! I'm really interested to see how much stronger that leg is than the other ;)

@peaseblossom55 - I've done that with my contacts more times than I care to admit. I just got new ones - they switched me to a new Bausch & Lomb lense that I LOVE.

@ollie08 - TWO DAYS. YOU'RE GETTING MARRIED. HOLY CRAP ON A CRACKER.

@lmcooper86 - I'm on the tired train with you. I had bad dreams all night, so I slept like poop. :(

    *****

Today is not exciting. It's gray and windy here, I'm tired, I have a shit ton of work to do, and I just want to go to sleep.

Ditto! I mean, I know it will be really difficult to wait, but that just seems like such a great moment during the ceremony. I get butterflies thinking about it too!

  • @CocoBellaF--I'm sorry last night was so rough!  Mr. H and I had one of those nights the last time he was here...they just leave you feeling completely drained.  At least it's not 110 outside today!

@Peaseblossom55--I have totally done that with a contact as well.  Anything to keep the new ones alive!  The only exception is if I drop it on the floor...then it goes straight in the trash.  I'm so cheap though...I have monthlies, but I always try to make them last at least 2 months.

I hate the 9/11 anniversary.  It makes me feel down and sad all day, and worried this year because of Mr. H and his job.  I usually cope by making sure that I spend some time talking to my students about it...most of them were between 4-6 when it happened, and they have literally no memory of it at all.  I was in high school, but it feels like it was just yesterday.

In better news, the weather has finally cooled off, and I'm wearing long sleeves for what I'm pretty sure is the first time since March.  And I'm going to really enjoy my run this afternoon, because it's nice out and I won't feel like the oppressive heat of death is trying to destroy me.  I'm going to have to force myself to grade papers this afternoon, but hopefully I can manage to get a few finished at least.  I've let myself get really behind, and now I have to grade them all this weekend...ugh!
  • @futuremrshistorian I only the wear the monthlies for a month towards the end of the month I can't wait to put in new ones.  If it falls on the floor I consider it done too.

    Anniversary

  • @Swazzle - Yeah, Gambit did the scared run where he was as close to the floor as humanly (catly?) possible. It would have been funny if he wasn't so scared.

@eilis1228 - Yeah, I will feel no guilt at all for not going to the gym today. Although when the alarm went off again at 5:30 I was so annoyed that I considered just getting up and going to the gym and going to work early lol.

@martha1818 - There was a premier at Varsity theatre at Bay and Bloor last night. I get off the subway at Bay and was really hoping to see someone, but no dice. I don't have plans to go to any shows this year, I feel lame!

    @GoldenPenguin - All aboard...it's a party up in here...or not.

My day WAS calm...until I got pulled into a non-scheduled staff meeting because they've let one of our managers go. Not my manager, the one of the other program. So there's some restructuring happening today. Those of us who were here for the last round of restructuring were having small panic attacks in the meeting, it was not a fun time. Sounds like it might be a smoother transition this time though. So far this doesn't affect me directly, but I'll know more this afternoon. My plan is just to keep my head down and do my work until I know more. BLERG!

    Wedding Countdown Ticker

  • @Swazzle Yay for no boot!

@CocoBellaF Yay for insurance! And also yay for getting things out in the open and coming to a compromise.

I was in 6th grade on 9/11. I remember seeing the coverage on the news before I went to school, but I didn't understand what I was seeing. So I walked to school and it wasn't until the afternoon that we were told what had happened. We were scared but I don't remember anybody being checked out early or anything, which is probably because we were in Utah and not as close as other people were.

I tried on my BM dress again for my friend's wedding, and I decided I like the length where it is. It's a little too lose in the boob area, but there's not much room to take it in, so I'm going to leave it. My friend said she'll probably rig it with some clothing tape so it's not having to be adjusted all of the time. I was planning on losing at least a few pounds before the wedding, but that has been put on hold since I'm just barely big enough for the size 16 I bought, and I'm afraid that if I lose any weight or inches it will have to go in for alterations. I don't want to do that so close to the wedding.

  • Dislike today.

Woke up exhausted again, and I have NO clue why because I haven't had an infusion in eight weeks! I have one tomorrow, so clearly this is just going to get worse. I'm relaxing before going into work so that I can feel energized when I teach tonight.

Is it ... is it bad that I kind of like when I forget that it's 9/11? That I don't like being reminded? I feel like an asshole for feeling that way.
