Is it dinnertime yet?

What are all of you lovely knotties having for dinner tonight?  Story of my life, I don't know what I want to make!  DH and I spend entirely too much money eating out, it's a bit absurd.  I'm proud to say that we have had dinner home every night since Saturday.  My goal is an entire week of home cooked meals.  Sunday we'll be going out for our anniversary (a night early because DH has decided to take a Hunters' Safety Course that starts on our anniversary).  It's sad, but this is a big accomplishment for us.

So far we have had:

Saturday:Smoked duck with garlic polenta

Sunday:Steak and clams with string beans

Monday:Tacos

Tuesday: Scallops over mushroom risotto

Wednesday:Sausage and Peppers

Re: Is it dinnertime yet?

  • H will be making home made pretzels from scratch and beer cheese sauce for dipping!  We kinda love our carbs. . .

Sweet and sour chicken thighs and either rice or mashed potatoes and probably a salad.
    ETA chicken flavour

  • @OliveOilsMom that sounds SO good! I might need to convince FI that we need to go to our favorite bar tonight for football so I can get their pretzels with cheese dip.

Nothing exciting for us. We have leftover sausage from dinner last night so I'm going to chop it up and throw it in with some salad greens and some crumbly feta cheese.

It's a bit chilly around these parts today so this morning I decided I wanted major comfort food for dinner tonight, especially since FH is going to be hanging out with some of his friends and I'll be cuddled up on the couch alone. I threw three chicken breasts in our tiny crock pot with a cream cheese-cream of mushroom soup mixture on top of it. If I'm feeling REALLY unhealthy I'll do some homemade mashed potatoes, otherwise I'll eat it with a salad.

ETA: normally I eat pretty healthy and try to avoid super processed foods (aka cream of anything) but this morning I didn't care haha. I'm having salad for lunch so it made the decision easier lol

  • @kaos16--All your meals sounds amazing!

Tonight I am making a soup with parsnips, pearl onions, little meatballs, and egg noodles. FI calls it my "idk what else to make so let me make something delicious" soup. Haha!

  • FI goes on night shift for the next 4 days starting tonight at 6. I think tonight I'm going to have steak and a potato with some green beans. I marinated the steak in worcestershire, hoisin, and a little olive oil.

Tomorrow I will probably have chinese food. Szechuan beef, and won ton soup.

Saturday I might get a burrito, and make a valiant attempt at not eating the entire thing on the drive home, but instead bringing it home, cutting it in half, and making it last two days.

This week has been a fucking nightmare with work, and I just want to eat everything.

  • I always make the mistake of looking at the food threads when I am trying to eat healthy. I just downed an apple turnover. I don't feel bad.

  • Tonight I'm grilling up some chicken sausages I got from Fairway (feta & spinach and portabello & swiss). I'm also going to do some broccoli rabe to go with it.

Other things I made this week:
    Chicken Marsala, rice, asparagus
    Tacos with ground turkey
GF pasta with grilled chicken and artichoke pesto, grilled veggies
  • I'm now thinking a chicken rollatini (stuffed with zucchini and mozz) with a side of cauliflower rice.
  • My next goal will be meal planning, since I end up at the grocery store close to every day. . . .. ugghh!

I think that once we build up what we have in our new freezer more it'll be easier.

....can I come to your house for dinner?

I think tonight is going to be Eggplant Parmesan with a green bean salad.  Or if I get stuck at the office again tonight (DH has also been working late this week), it's Chipotle.  MMM.

  • I made a batch of  mini-meatballs in the crock-pot yesterday.   I might just  have them again tonight and then cryovac the rest and throw them in the freezer.

If DH is home for dinner then we might have tilapia, rice and veggies.

Tomorrow I'm not sure.  Something simple like grilled chicken or tuna with some veggies.

Honestly we eat pretty simple at home.   Lot of grilled meats and veggies with a startch thrown in.

Do you eat more simply because your husband is a chef?  I feel like we eat elaborate meals because DH secretly wants to be a chef, lol

I would say so. He has all the stuff (ingredients and equipment) at work, so that is where he likes to play and experiment. He loves to make up a dish and pass around the club for people to try. Plus he orders anything he wants at work. He wants lobster roll for lunch tomorrow? Sure, call up the lobster vendor for next day delivery. Feels like meatloaf. Guess what the dinner special is going to be?

  • Spur of the moment decision this morning... was going to do pulled BBQ chicken, but threw a bunch of stuff together for chicken tortilla soup in the crock pot!
  • I'm making homemade pasta with homemade turkey meat-a-balls.

  • Tonight I work late, so I'll just be picking something up.  But DH and I are having a friend over for dinner Monday before she leaves for Boston for her post-doc fellowship and DH will be making a souffle.  Already excited for it.

  • I'm doing a roasted chicken and assuming I have yeast making copycat Olive Garden bread sticks. I was craving Olive Garden last night and FI laughed and pointed out that I onlye actually eat their bread sticks and soup. Last time we went I got all judgey because he had  their chicken parmesan and mine is better.

  • It's been a long day, so we're going to have some sliders we have left over from the other night. And salad, because vegetables are good for you.

  • Tonight I'm making lemon and sage marinated chicken that Will get put with pasta and smothered in a garlic cream sauce. I make dinner almost every night. But I also meal plan and prep all my ingredients on the weekend.

  • we had jambalaya....mmmmm...still doing the 100 days of real food thing and it`s awesome.
I also have whole wheat bread in the bread machine and finished making applesauce carrot muffins.  YUM
  • It's 8:22 and I'm just having dinner. $4 cheeseburger and a $14 bottle of wine. Because priorities.

I had mall pretzels for lunch. I suck.

  • Decided on turkey burgers instead, loaded with crumbly Gorgonzola cheese. So good. Salad on the side. Not a terribly unhealthy dinner.

Damn right girl.  You know your priorities.

DH and I gave up drinking until Oct 8th.  Well he did, I said I would support him.  Oh wait, I'm going to NOLA next week.  Yeah,  I might amend this to no drinking in CO until Oct 8th.
