Facebook Status Updates=/= Save The Dates

I have someone on my Facebook profile, and she and her Fi got engaged earlier this year after dating for about 4 months.

She hasn't put much on Facebook, which I took as a good sign.  (you guys know what I'm talking about)  She updated today, with a blurb indicating that the family had been told, and that now 'all my close friends and family' should go ahead, and save the date (and she provides her date).

My questions:
a/ is this my save the date? ( <--warning: snark)
b/ what qualifies as 'all your close friends and family'?
c/ isn't the concern that all the people that see this and don't get an invite will be insulted or hurt that they aren't 'close friends or family'?

I guess I'm just grumpy because I'm getting over being sick, but  I feel like it's #tackypants and now I'm #grumpypants.
I should, in the sake of fairness, say that I fall into the category of who would traditionally be people you pretty much have to invite, so It's not 'sour grapes' that I wasn't invited.

(sidebar: I found the most amazing stickie here that taught me how to add gifs to my signature, and am GORGING myself on Newsroom, West Wing, Suits, and I can't find just one and I'm FREAKING OUT.) (I hope they show; if not, it's not the fault of the literally step by step instructions, lol)

Edit: YAY! THERE THEY ARE and also, grammar is hard
Edit: Indicated snark, when I meant snark, and not a genuine inquiry. Sorry, lovely Knotties.

Re: Facebook Status Updates=/= Save The Dates

  • That's tacky. I wouldn't STD if I were you since that would be presumptuous.

Lurkers- don't do this! It opens you up to people asking if they're inviting and putting you in a weird situation of saying yes/no.
  • I wouldn't STD to this; point a/ was really more cheeky than anything, from my standpoint. But, your kind comment shows how (frankly) some folks might legitimately ask!! Also: lurkers: @RebeccaFlower knows of what she speaks!

What do you mean, a "blurb"? Did she send you a private message? Did she post this as a status?

    My questions:
a/ is this my save the date? Depends on how she sent it. For example, if she sent via a PM, then yes. If she just made an blanket announcement, then I'd say no. Rude of her, but no.
b/ what qualifies as 'all your close friends and family'? This is a question for the bride.
c/ isn't the concern that all the people that see this and don't get an invite will be insulted or hurt that they aren't 'close friends or family'? Again, I think it depends on what exactly she said and how she sent it.

I guess I'm just grumpy because I'm getting over being sick, but  I feel like it's #tackypants and now I'm #grumpypants. Don't let someone's tackiness make you grumpy. You'll be grumpy a lot.

Ain't that the truth (re: other people's tacky making me grumpy).

It was an open Facebook status.

    This. This x 2000.
  • Are you sure it wasn't restricted view?

A friend of mine did that to a post recently and I was one of the people who could see it but I would never have known that it was restricted to certain people except that she told me!

FI and I got engaged after 5 months of dating. Sometimes, you just know. I don't see why it's relevant that they got engaged after 4 months.
  • I am already saving the date your friend is my friend from church even though she doesn't seem to like me very much why doesn't she like me I can't wait to go to her wedding it's in a park right ?
