October 2014 Weddings

Unexpected #s

Today is our RSVP deadline!  Hooray!
We started tracking down all of the people that we haven't heard from, and now we're realizing that the number of guests at our wedding is much smaller than we anticipated.  We were expecting 200, and we are actually only going to have about 150.

Anyone else have surprises with your numbers?

Re: Unexpected #s

  • Yep! Mine is on a much smaller scale, but it isn't what I expected. We invited 100, expected 80-ish. My RSVP deadline was Friday, and I have only received about 75 % back. I figure, most of them dropped them in the mail on Friday. But so far, we have 61 attending. Based on the who the outstanding RSVPs are, I expect that we will end up with a total of 70 guests. Which is unfortunate, because our minimum is 80.
  • We invited 150. Most live very far away and I haven't seen them for 5-10 years, so i didn't expect them to come. I was expecting about 80 for the wedding. But, now it looks like it'll be about 110.

  • My RSVP deadline is thursday, but we already have a lot fewer than expected.  We invited 200 and if the holdouts accept we're only looking at 160.

So our individual per plate cost goes up, because we went below 175, but it's less money spent overall.
  • Yep. After all the "you have to invite cousin x" and "do you have room for 2 more", list ballooned to 205 from the 120 we originally wanted. After the hounding to get back the responses, we ended up with a manageable 128. Thank goodness!
  • We invited 180, expected about 125 and only about 80 have rsvped. I'm okay with that tho. I kind of like the idea of having a smaller wedding. I'm just happy it's not the other way around--too many ppl coming!

  • We planned for 125 people. We invited 178, have 101 confirmed yes so far. I'm still waiting for confirmation on 53 guests. I'm guessing we will end up between 115-135. Our deadline is Saturday, so will start hounding then!
  • Our deadline is the 20th and we're waiting on only 7 people to respond. If everyone says yes then we'll end up with 102. We invited 123 and I'm thrilled that our final numbers are in the 100 range. Perfect size for us.

  • our deadline is wednesday, and we've heard back from almost everyone..... invited 175, and so far 106 have confirmed yes, when we were expecting less than 100! (it's a destination wedding....)

kinda frustrating though since my parents are like "oh have you heard from so-and-so yet? we invited them" and they're not on the master list. grr..... also in my culture it wouldn't surprise me if some extra randoms show up!

i originally wanted around 20, it being a DW and all.... but my parents are paying for it, so i pretty much have to put aside what i want and let them do their thing :)

    party!
  • I just way to play!
    I invited 14; expected 12; will have 10.

  • I'm still missing a lot of RSVPs (mostly out of state family), but I think we're going to come in under what we were expecting (both what we were expecting after the guest list blew up AND what we were expecting originally). RSVP due date is Saturday, so I'll probably start making phone calls Monday to finalize everything.
  • Our deadline is saturday. But I had someone say yes that I didnt think would come. And someone say no that I didnt think would come.
  • Our deadline isn't until 9/24, so we still have a ways.  We initially only wanted around 125, but ended up inviting 178.  We expected around 140-150 from that but it is actually looking like it'll be close to the 125 we wanted :)  Hooray!
  • Deadline was Friday the 12th. I am missing 3. Then 2 I need to clarify. But my uncle put himself his wife and 3 kids on his response and only my uncle and his wife were invited. So I sent that awkward text clarifyiing who was actually invited and I am waiting to hear back on that. Sorta hoping they don't come since the kids can't. (I've only seen my uncle a handful of times since I was a baby so we aren't very close) The 3 missing are my great grandfather, and my older sister/maid of honors friend and boyfriend. They both are police officers so i know time off might be hard to get. Gonna call my great grandfather later today and reach out to everyone else in the next few. But originally invited 84 but added a few people on so we are at 79 adult meals and 3 kids. So we'll see!

  • we invited 26, I think we are ending up at 23...
    - one passed away a few weeks ago
    - two are having severe health issues

It would have been two less, but I'm flying FI's BM home for the wedding (FI doesn't know).
  • We invited 80 and are going to have 60.

  • oh yeah! We invited 195 thinking we were going to be strapped for cash to pay for that many people and we only have 155. Alot of people who said no was shocking to us...

  • We sent out exactly 200 invites with the assumption we'd have 150 guests. We should be really close to that 150 once we hear back from the final handful of folks, even given the SHOCKING number of write-in plus-one's that came back unexpectedly (whole other story, I suppose). I guess we'll find out soon enough, they're due next week!
  • Invited 65 people and are at 11 declines, 36 or 38 accepts (may have counted a couple twice in my head just now) and awaiting the rest. Glad I have a spread sheet because some are verbally rsvping.

  • Ha! I sent out 45 invites and only got 12 RSVP's back...

I'm just figuring, hey, we're in Vegas... Whoever makes it great, whoever can't, it's their loss! HAHA

  • We just figured out our total:

    Invited: 226
    Guests Attending: 164

Not too bad - I was hoping for no more than 180.
  • Waiting on RSVPs was the absolute death of me. In my opinion, it has been the most stressful part of the whole planning process so far! Just with people waiting and waiting to send back... even the people in our wedding party!

I got some great 'why we didnt send back' excuses.... including:
"I havent checked my mail." (we sent these back in July, mind you.)
"We thought it would be obvious that we were coming. (still need to know what you're eating!)
"I KNEW I was forgetting something!" (oye...)

Our deadline was Sept 18 and fortunately, we now have all invited accounted for. We invited about 150, and are now expecting 98. Surprisingly, more than half of his family were rejects, which is a bit disappointed as I have not met a whole lot of them. Just glad this part is now over ad now all we have to worry about it where to sit who.
  • Invited 165
    115 attending.

My poor fiance has so little family coming, and his BM couldn't get leave from the Army. He is pretty crushed.

@weeniedogs - Those excuses made my day! We've had our share of weird excuses too.

Our deadline isn't until October 1st - still waiting on about 1/3 of the RSVP cards!!! Hurry up people!!
  • All of our RSVPs are in. Got the last one last night. We invited 153 and got 125 total which is awesome because that's about what fits in the venue comfortably. I have been doing table seating charts for weeks so I am thrilled that I can finalize them. FINALLY.
