cbroyland, you need to get a grip and grow up.  You get to choose your FI.  You must also allow others in your family to choose their significant others.  If you keep up with your childish attitude, you will build a wall between you and others in your family.  Is that what you want?  Play nice with your step-mother.  It won't kill you to be generous and gracious to her.

PS.  I married my husband after being together for four days.  We had known each other for many years, but hadn't seen each other in the last 7.  We have been happily married for 38 years.  I guess you wouldn't "approve"?

CMGragain, I'm sipping on some Pinot Noir tonight and just raised a toast to you & your DH.  38 years is awesome.  I've also heard some horror stories from friends who work at MD Anderson about spouses not sticking around in the face of cancer (and I know of a few jerks who have wussed out when things go south health-wise).  Cheers to you & your husband!

Well, sometimes I feel that I married an octopus.  DH says he fell in love with me at age 17, when we were in high school.  I didn't get it.  I thought he was just a horny teenager.  I went to college and fell deeply in love with the wrong man.  Mr. Wrong was not in love with me.  After a few years of recovery, at age 25, I met DH again. He had written or called me once every year, and asked me to take him back.   We were together for a couple of days.  He sent me airplane tickets to fly out to Washington DC, where he lived and worked.  He proposed.  I would have been a fool not to accept.
We have had two children together, and DH sticks to me like crazy-glue.  When his mother died many years ago, I was there for him.  When I was diagnosed with my initial breast cancer, he was there for me.  I worry about him now.  He drives me crazy with his fussing, but I know I am lucky to be so loved by both him and my two grown children.
