Pnina Tornai

I know I'm a little behind on this. But I was watching SYTTD yesterday - I'd never really seen it before. There was a bride paying $14,000 for a Pnina dress. And this was with a trunk show discount.

and the dress was kind of hideous, you guys.

Don't get me wrong - I'm not hating on her for spending that on a dress. Because I get it, I really do. When I went into my bridal salon, I didn't even look at the prices until I chose a dress. But 14k for a dress that looks like lingerie gone bad???

Re: Pnina Tornai

  • Is it bad that I actually really love the top of that dress (wouldn't wear it unless there was some satin underlay) but I do agree the rest of it is a little much for me.

  • LOL at hooker bride. That's a perfect way to describe it.
  • One of my friends wore a Pnina for her wedding and it was actually very classic and beautiful. However, the only ones you ever see on SYTTD are the hooker-looking ones. There was one girl who had a custom Pnina dress made for something like $24,000 and hated it. Hated it so much that I believe she bought a new dress or pretty much remade the original, to the tune of another couple ten grand.

  • Ah, Pnina. I binge-watched SYTTD on Netflix while FI was video gaming in the same room. Usually he's the one raging about getting ganked, or camped, or lanes (IDK, can anyone translate League of Legends speak?), but he was laughing about how much I snarked on that freaking Pnina Tornai.

Seriously, there's at least one bride per episode with that dress, talking about how "unique" it is. If I've seen it 3 dozen times, it ain't special.

And $10K+ for lingerie with a princess poof? *vomit*

  • To each their own on dresses.

But I'm with you. Personally, I really dislike Pnina dresses. I think they look trashy and unfinished. Sorry, but I just can't see the art/design. It blows. my. mind. that people pay what they do for them.

  • I personally do not like the style of her gowns. They are "too much dress" for me. Far be it from me to judge how much one spends on a gown, but I do think you can get something just as lovely and striking for much less.

  • I never saw a gown of hers I liked and certainly not for that price either.

  • Her dresses are just completely fugly to me.  And I can't imagine spending that much money on one that looks like those do.

  • I just absolutely CANNOT with the lingerie-ish Pnina dresses. I don't want to see anyone's midriff on their wedding day (or any other day, really).

But, you know, there's lots of people who would hate the dresses I love, so whatev. There's no accounting for taste.
  • yep, to each her own.

But you wouldn't catch me in that dress ever. I just don't think your stomach should show in a wedding gown.

  • I've never liked her dresses. Then again, I also think that your wedding dress should be family-friendly...

  • I've seen some on SYTTD that have been some BEAUTIFUL Pninas.  I remember seeing one that was a simple fit and flare, with very pretty and flowy rouching, but the vast majority of the ones they feature look like bordello trash bags.

I'm sorry, if I'm forking out $14K for a dress, it damn well better look like it's finished and not like I forgot to to put on the top half.

Right? I swear, so many of the tops do not match the bottoms. It's like the Russell Terrier of dresses!

  • She actually has a handful of very pretty dresses, it is just too bad that they are never featured on the show, but instead they show her hideous over the top cheap ass looking rhinestone covered dresses with see-through bodices that are almost always then lined for the customer.

  • Me no speaks hooker bride. Too expensive and you feel used after the experience.
    Happiness is an inside job
  • I got a perfectly gorgeous ballgown for $800. Why on earth would you spend $14,000 on a dress you will wear once????

  • I once showed DH some Pnina dresses when he was getting on my case about how he wanted me to wear a white formal poofy dress for the wedding. He stopped pressuring me after that. (I still wore white but not poofy.)

Because I guess for those 1 percenters $14,000 for a dress is like us average folks spending $1000 on a dress.  It is just the norm for them.

I am baffled by the very concept.

UGHHH.  It really is every episode, it makes me wonder if any of those brides ever watched a single episode of the show they signed up to be on.  Because then they'd know that it's a pretty frequently purchased gown.

And I really don't understand the fascination with really revealing wedding dresses.  I'm all for dressing sexy when the situation is appropriate.  I have tons of outfits that I wear when I want FI to see me and go "DAMN."  But at a wedding, the only people there are your family and (hopefully) platonic friends.  Why would you want to wear your "Sexy" clothes in front of them?  Grandma doesn't give a shit about how big your boobs are.  Save that shit for the honeymoon, or basically any other time you're not surrounded by family members.

It means the other team was killing him. The map they play on has 3 lanes, usually there are two single person lanes, a 2 person lane, and a 5th person that runs around the whole map. "Gank" is when the other team sets up a trap to kill a member of the other team, usually with that 5th person who doesn't have a lane. "Camping" is when the enemy team sets up the same trap multiple times. Hope that helps!

  • I can't stand the Pninas.  I know she has some beautiful, tasteful dresses, but the see-through bodices?  Tutu skirts?  MULLET skirts?  No, no, and no.

And this is coming from the girl who did buy my dress at Kleinfeld.  And I was that brat who was like, "more bling!" at every store until I found The One.  Still no Pnina for me.

"I'm not a rude bitch.  I'm ten rude bitches in a large coat."

  • Yeah I am not a Pnina fan. I will say that I used the top of that dress as my inspiration for my wedding night lengerie. Sexytimes to be had!

  • Sometimes I skype my friends or family and we watch pnina catwalk videos just to laugh.

Everyone's pointed out that they look trashy and unfinished, but what about the very obvious and poorly-constructed hoops in the skirts? I can't even believe someone watches those dresses rock like a bell and stick up when the bride sits and doesn't just laugh at her. It's like an honest-to-god giant hula hoop is glued into the hem.

Who wants to bet that the dress in bridesmaids was inspired by pnina?
    I totally thought that too!
