Need recomendations for a new curling iron....

Ok my curling iron finally died.  Its a hand-me down from my mom, so I'm not that surprised it died, but now I need a new one and I have no clue what I should get. 

I have long hair, and it's really fine but there is TONS of it.  It also takes me tons of hair spray to get it to stay curled, and even then, the humidity normally does it in.

Some one please tell me what brand or type of curling iron I should get.

I have said it before and I'll say it again - I swear by Paul Mitchell styling products. I have had their straighteners for about 6 years now. I broke the first one (well... cats broke the first one) by knocking it off the counter. It worked fine, but the spring in it was busted. The second one burned - don't think it works any more, haha, although I haven't found it to test it out yet...

The new one is the NeuroSmooth. I think they have a curler in the same line. The straightener is phenomenal, but since curling is not something I have to do to my hair like, ever, I haven't tried the curler (if it exists... which I think it does?)

Hot Tools curling irons, it's a professional brand, you can find them at Ulta. They get much hotter than drugstore brands and aren't that much more, I got mine on sale for $30. Since they get much hotter my hair holds a curl so much better, I never had any luck with conair, revlon or anything like that.

For long hair that doesn't stay in well, use a small barrel. When I curl my hair, I use a 1inch barrel and then I turn my head upside down and shake out my curls a little bit, then spray. Then you don't look prom. I know big irons make better curls, but your hair will fall out faster with those.

I also suggest hot tools. I already have curly hair so I don't use it that much unless its for a special night out or I'm feeling fancy. But they work really well, reasonably priced, and they last for a long time. They also sell them at Sally's and I have a membership card so I get discounts.

I also reccommend Hot Tools. I use a wand and a curling iron. You don't want to use one too small because it will make your hair to tight and kinky looking rather than curly. You also don't want one too big because it sounds like your hair already doesn't hold curl well.

I suggest a curling wand.  I use Jose Eber curling wands, and I got them off of amazon for much cheaper than retail. I gave up my traditional curling iron about 4 years ago and have been using a curling wand ever since.  I have the same hair type as you, my hair is long, fine, and there's a lot of it.  I can use a 1 1/2 inch curling wand for every day wear, I spray the crap out of it with a medium hold hair spray and it stays pretty well all day.  I just wrap the hair around the barrel to curl it, let the curls cool, and then seperate random curls so that it doesn't look "prom" like and spray it.  The 1 1/2 inch gives good volume, and I also have the 1 inch and that gives really good curl.

Throw another recommendation in for Hot Tools.  I also highly recommend CHI (also available at Ulta).  My stepdaughter has very thick very curly hair and she swears by the CHI Straightener that she bought on the advice of her hairstylist.  She also has the Hot Tools Curling Wand because her natural curls are very unruly so sometimes she'll straighten her hair which will hold for about 3 days then she add random curls for body.

What kind of hair spray and stuff are all you ladies using.... I'm pretty hair impaired and haven't been able to keep up with new products or trends or anything.

For hairspray I recommend Got2B Glued, my hair never holds any sort of curl for more than an hour, but it lasts all night with Glued.

If you curl your hair a lot and you want to invest in a really nice iron, I'd go with CHI or Rusk.

Tresemme Tres 2 level 4.  It's what works the best for me.  I can spray the heck out of my hair and it never looks crunchy, plus you can get a huge can of it for like $4

I like Big Sexy Hair. Best hold and volume-izing. 

For cheaper hairspray, I like the Herbal Essence Body Envy.

I cheat.  I use a straightener to curl my hair.  For some reason a curling iron just doesnt wanna play fair with me.  Sometimes, I use hot rollers.

When I have long hair I only use those steam curlers...they used to be call richard caruso molecular hair setters...but I have a think head of very fine hair. Curling irons don't work and I'm pretty picky bc I donate my hair to wigs for kids every 4 or 5 years. I love Big Sexy Hair products.
