Groom in Military

I have found it very difficult to plan for my wedding. My soon-to-be husband is in the US Army and is currently in Iraq.. Unfortunately he can not guarantee when he will be home. He has a date right now.. but that could change.. I have found it very difficult to plan a date, and without an exact date you cant plan where you will have it. All of our families want to be there or else I wouldn't care just doing a court house wedding.. all I have been able to do is make a guest list, figure out our attendants and get my dress. other then that It hard to plan for much more.. I have ideas but cant set anything in stone..

Have you tried posting on the Military Brides board to ask how they dealt with similar situations?  http://talk.theknot.com/boards/ShowForum.aspx?ForumID=13I imagine those girls would be able to offer a lot of great ideas.  Maybe you and your FI can just do a quickie courthouse wedding ceremony and then plan the reception with friends and family to occur once he's back from Iraq.

We had the same issue, so we planned for time we knew he'd most likely be able to come home on leave, and got married 2 days after Christmas. He's stationed out of Japan and hadn't been home in 10 months.  Where his duty station is also may make a difference. If it's overseas and he hasn't been home in a while, they tend to be more lenient with leave requests, especially if they've recently gotten back from deployment (particularly to the middle east)Getting married in a church will be difficult (if thats what you're wanting) as a lot of places aren't willing to work around the whole being deployed thing. May be different in the Seattle area, idk. Sure was difficult around the Tri-Cities anyway.

And by Seattle, I really mean Portland. In which case, could be more difficult since you don't have a military base nearby.
