Would this be rude?

Hi all! So I bought my dress off the rack Wednesday, paid in full. My sister and I are going to the bridal shop tomorrow to look for a dress for her and I was wondering if it's rude if I ask to try on my dress again while I'm there? I'm not sure what the etiquette on that is! It's staying there until I get it altered.

Re: Would this be rude?

  • Do you want her to see the dress, or what is your reason for wanting to try it on?
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

Yes I want her to see me in the dress, and last time we didn't get any pictures of me in it and it looks way different in person than on the website and so I'd like more accurate pictures. Also, I finished my veil and I'd like to see how the lengths look together.
  • It may be too late. I don't know what the policies are at the store you bought from, but it may have been sent out for cleaning already. It may also be a little difficult to do on a Saturday, as that's a very busy day for many businesses. There's no harm in asking though. You might have better luck if you say you want to accessorize it through them, and need to try on a veil, or a sash, etc.

I didn't think about that! I figured that it would be cleaned after it was altered, since they asked me if I wanted to bring it home or leave it at the shop.

Ahh... somewhat different than a few of the places I looked at that sell off the rack.  The rack only stores that sold samples said they did the cleaning before the alterations.  The boutiques that have sample sales told me I would be responsible for cleaning.

  • No, I would not ever do this on a day that is supposed to be for her and her shopping experience.  I know you probably don't intend it that way, but why not just pop in another day with her, or bring her to your fitting?

I didn't clarify this, it's not for a wedding dress it's for her bridesmaids dress.
  • Oh! Well, I don't see the harm in trying on the gown at some point then.

  • You paid for it.  You own it.  If you want to try it on, go ahead.
