Today is FI's birthday. So I am making him stew and bought him a little cake and made sure enough beer was in the fridge for him. I got him a card too (even though I think cards are dumb, heh) and got some presents for him. I signed the card on behalf of myself and the cat.
FI calls me from work today and tells me his mother called. She proceeded to complain and yammer on about more wedding stuff, criticizing this and that and at the end she says "Oh yeah, how does it feel to be 31? Happy birthday."
It made FI feel just awful because if he did the same thing to his mother she'd yell at him about being insensitive. She's just such an unpleasant woman and my FI shouldn't have to deal with this kind of sadness on his birthday. He picked up the phone thinking she was going to give him well wishes, but instead was crazy. He wouldnt have answered if he'd known that!
No one should feel like crap on their birthday! I just want him to come home so I can shower him in presents and hugs.
