Just Engaged and Proposals

newly engaged and new to the knot

Hi,
I and my Fiance(sp?) got engaged this past friday night, sept, 19th, 2014. this weekend was our first anniversary, having met and started dating a year ago. i was hoping it would happen this weekend, we love each other so much. but the last month or so, has been stressful for both of us, and as each day got closer and closer i was more convinced that engagement was the farthest thing from his mind. apparently he had been scheming the whole month. he had told me that he got me something for our anniversary, but he said it was free, and then a few days later he said his mom helped him pick it out. i thought then there could be a slim chance she had passed him down a ring to propose with, but then he has brought me some really different types of gifts as the year has gone on, so i put it in the back of my mind, and focused on finding another job, and keeping our new house clean.
the weather has finally started cooling off in the evenings, so friday night we made a couple drinks, and brought my big yankee candle outside to our patio and just sat in silence for a bit and then started talking about things, like work, and a little ways in, he asked me what i thought he should do with the rest of his life, and me, often teasing him said, marry me. he laughed and got up, and went back inside. i thought he was just getting another drink. he came back and we talked some more about plans we have to open our own cafe in our town, and then he asked me if i would marry him if i asked him to, and i nodded yes. he put the box down in front of me and said, then this is for you, lol. i stared at it and dropped my jaw. i opened it, it was actually a ring. and i said yes! he put it on and he told me it was his mothers, and that her one condition was that his kids would get that ring (whether we stayed together or not). understandable, though i have no plans whatsoever of that  happening.
so now i am planning the wedding two days later. i started making a guest list and am trying to figure out where i want to get married, who will be my bridesmaids, and MOH. its gonna be hard to get everything done when i live 7 hours from my hometown now, but i think it will be fine. the only thing he wants is to have an inside wedding so we dont have to worry about the weather. so im pretty much planning by myself.
i was wondering, doesnt the knot send you some kind of package helping you get started when you sign up? or do they not do that anymore?

congratulations and welcome!  Everyone here on the message boards are great and brutaaly honest.  Grab a drink, sit back and lurk a bit. . . . . a lot of your questions are probably being asked as we speak.

A few gentle reminders to get you started:

    1. It's just a day, don't stress yourself out too much, especially this early on.  Enjoy being engaged.

    2. Don't ask your bridal party too soon, once you ask people, you can't take it back without ruining friendships, and people and relationships change over time.

    3. If you do Save The Dates, everyone who gets one must get an invitation so choose wisely.

    4. As far as a proposal and ring, especially a family heirloom. . . . pictures or it didn't happen!!!!!

    5. Cute and funny furbaby pictures will also help you make friends fast around here.

    Congrats again!

  • Hi hazelfire21!

I've been engaged for a month and new to The Knot, too.
Kaos16 gave you some great advice!
I've taken the last few weeks to enjoy being engaged and trying not to stress much, as my wedding is a year away. There sure is a lot to think about though...

    Congratulations!
  • Congrats and happy planning! No, TK doesn't send you anything that I'm aware of.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14
