I am in tears over my ring.

This is my worse nightmare. As you know, my ring was broken at Kay and Jared was going to remake it. Well, they won't have it in time. Like not even close. Also, they said that they are not going to be able to replicate my original ring. This means I have to go in and pick out a whole new ring.

I am a mess. This ring was perfect and I don't want FI to think that I didn't love it. This whole thing sucks. No point to this but to get it out.

  • Oh, no! I'm so sorry. I was really hoping they'd be able to get it back to you in time, even if it was cutting it pretty close. What a nightmare.

Is there another ring similar to the one FI got you? Can you have one customized so it's identical, or nearly so?
  • As soon as I saw your title I was like "oh no what now?". Well that really sucks. Dude, I hope you're gonna get some sort of refund or part of that new ring funded. I never heard about such unprofessionals before. And you ain't the first one having problems with Kay. My nephew at kindergarten can make sturdier rings from clay for crying out loud. Put your foot down woman!

  • Thanks everyone.

The people I am working with really are wonderful. They are actually giving me a credit for the full value of my original engagement ring plus and additional $600 because of everything. So that is nice but this whole thing blows.

  • Do they still sell the ring?  You could always just repurchase the same thing.  I know Kay and Jared tend to sell the same items so you might get lucky.

  • Why can't they replicate the original ring, even if it takes longer?  I would think the mold would exist somewhere...

Is there any way they could work something out with the original jeweler who made your ring so that you can get something closer to the original? I know they won't likely just give you the cash to go there (although they should) but maybe that's an option. :(

I am crying with you. At least they are paying for the full value of your ring.. can you go back to the store you bought it from and see if they have the same setting? I know you are so emotionally attached to the original though.. get your diamond back. rawr.

This is a good point-- can you at least use the same center stone?

  • The original ring was purchased at a family run store two states away. All of this because I didn't want to ship it there to get a stone tightened. I should have! They can't issue a check but can give store credit.

See if they'll work out a trade wholesale purchase with the other jeweler for a new setting, put the original diamond into it and then sell it back to you with your credit. Like car dealerships do?

I have no idea what you just said. LOL! I will just say this verbatum to them and see what they say. It's worth a shot!

Missed a word in my original post. I'm probably talking totally out of my ass here but it seems like something they should be able to do, to give you back the closest possible substitute for what they fucked up.

  • ugh I'm sorry! This makes me sad. At least some day your ring will come with an epic story.

Lurkers, be wary of Kay. My ring came from a little family owned shop that went out of business, so I went to Kay to look into getting it sized. The girl working there wasn't even able to answer any of my questions, even basic ones. I asked her if there was a risk of the side stones falling out from making the band smaller, and she said "um... probably not." Ok? Then I asked if they have any kind of insurance in case that happens, and she said "oh yeah of course, cuz we've lost people's rings!" My jaw fucking dropped. I ran out of that place as fast as I could and never looked back. Kay can't even pry my ring from my cold dead finger after that!

Not that that little story helps your situation, but maybe our bad experiences combined can save some other girl's ring. Good luck, and I hope you feel better. Your FI's idea is very sweet (to re-propose)

  • Oh I am so, so sorry!
  • How awful.  :(  I hope they can create something for you that keeps your original center stone, so you still will have that part of the original ring!

  • I'm so sorry! Are you getting the original ring back as well as the refund?
