NWR- What to bring/wear to block party?

FI and I just bought a house-YAY! We haven't settled yet (that happens Oct. 23rd). While we were getting the home inspection I was kind of going in and out of the house and talked to the neighbors. They invited us to a block party this Saturday and mentioned to FMIL (our realtor) that there would be a band. Neighborhood is pretty family friendly, but young couples too and they'll have a band. What would you guys wear or bring? High of 75. I was thinking rice krispy treats and a cooler of light beer and waters? Bring something heartier? Sangria? Nothing alcoholic (it which case I may pregame or keep it a short visit lol)?

  • Regarding the alcohol - it is hard to tell what the crowd is like. I almost would say don't bring alcohol the first time, and if you notice they are a drinking bunch, then it is okay for the future. But you don't want to show up with alcohol and all the families be like, um there's children here! What's wrong with you!

You don't need to wear anything too special - you'll be outside, so shorts or pants, and a nice breathable shirt. Comfy but cute shoes. You'll probably be standing around a lot.

I love block parties! Have fun!

I wouldn't bring booze the first time you meet these people. Get a feel for the crowd first. There are a ton of other things to bring. I'd probably bring a veggie platter with hummus/dip because those things (where I'm from anyway) are usually pretty dessert heavy. Congrats on the house!!! ETF spelling

  • I would bring a dessert/snack that is okay to sit out (Rice Krispie Treats are perfect).  I would bring some lawn chairs and wear comfortable and casual clothes.

We just had a block party at our new neighborhood, it was nice.

I would not bring alcohol the first time just in case someone starts clutching their pearls, but take note for future events.

  • I agree with PPs - skip the alcohol this time around and feel it out. You don't want the neighbors to talk!

Can't go wrong with a maxi dress.

  • I would bring beer in a cooler and leave it in the car 'accidentally' until you see if others are drinking.

And if no one else is drinking...just make lots of trips back to your car!
