How long did you have your photographer for?

Two shooters for 5 hours. I'm in the very very small minority of people who would rather pay more for great food and top shelf liquor than photography. It was hard to forgo all-day coverage, especially because people continuously remind me that "the pictures are all you have to remember the day!"
We made a similar call. We love her work but only have 1 person for 6 hours. I would have spent more but, when we were looking, there wasn't anyone in the price range we were looking for so we ended up going lower rather than blowing up our budget.

Now that we have a bigger budget- we were offered some financial assistance and have had a lot of declines- we could afford more but it's a bit too late. It also helps that we have lots of friends and family who we know will be taking a ton of pictures.

  • I seem to be in the minority, but we only booked ours for 4 hours (4 to 8). The reception goes til 10, but we figured we don't need any pictures after the special dances are over. We're also not doing getting ready photos. We're not big on pictures.

four hours? Five? twenty four? THE WHOLE WEDDING WEEKEND???
I mean, why not the whole Wedding Month?! XD

I'm planning on having my brother's best friend do the photography, if I could ever get ahold of him to give me a quote.... But I'm hoping I can book him for, like, 9:00 AM to about 3:00 PM or so. We're probably going to have a 10:00 wedding (if we do what we're planning and all the things work out the way they're SUPPOSED TO *glares at all the working parts I have no control over*) so 9:00 gives time to get some of me/my girls/family, some of FI/his dudes/family, some of the decor and crap pre-ceremony, and whatever he feels like taking pictures of.

Boo, I gotta warn you: unless you can set up almost everything the night before, DO NOT do a 10 am wedding. Mine was at 11 and it felt like everything all morning was running late. I love being early. I was stressed as hell and do not recommend it.

    ****Stupid non-box

My sister had a 10:30am wedding.  It was great.  I've in a few other early weddings, again NBD. The photographer got there about 8:30.

We had ours for about 8 hours. They came around 3pm for a 5:30 ceremony and stayed to the end (11pm).. We had 2 shooters and did first looks.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

We had two shooters for around 14 hours, but they would have stayed with us longer had we stayed out longer. They came around noon to get a few pictures of the detail stuff before we got dressed (DH's shoes/tie/accessories, my shoes/dress/accessories), and basically hung out with us until we left for the venue. We had them for the duration of the wedding (6 hours), and they came out with us to go bar hopping until almost 2am.

ETA: The photographers are friends of ours. We had invited them to come bar hopping with us when we booked them and told them they didn't have to be "on" - we wanted them to be able to relax and have a good time - but they knew they'd get some great shots of us (they did). Both told us our wedding was the most fun one they'd ever worked, so I guess we did something right!

Yeah, this thought has crossed my mind. I'm thinking it'd be doable, but I would probably be a little freakish about the time crunch. Luckily our decor isn't going to be super involved if everything works the way it should. Of course, if everything doesn't go exactly right the whole plan may have to be changed up really quick (like possibly within the two weeks before the wedding quick), so pretty much everything I say is pure speculation.

  • My wedding was at 10:30 a.m. and I don't regret it for a second. We had the photographer from 10-2.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • Mine just said "unlimited" so probably 12 hrs or so.

  • Our photographer is arriving sometime around 9-10ish am, and will be with us when our wedding starts at 6 PM, our reception is until midnight and we have "all day coverage". I originally wanted to do a chinese lantern release but with our venue we aren't allowed so I may ask about a sparkler exit.
