Bridesmaid dresses to flatter all figures!

Hello!

I am just starting my hunt for bridesmaid dresses and I have a problem I'm sure a lot of other brides have - my bridesmaids are all incredibly different. For example, I have 2 sisters - 1 sister is a street size 00 so when we went to look at bridesmaid dresses, she could only fit into 1 sample because they were all size 10+ and she needs a size 2. She is not a curvy girl, at all. My other sister is 5 ft and plus sized. I haven't had a chance to shop with her yet but according to my mom, the most flattering style on her is empire waist with sleeves. Now, that style would probably flatter both my sisters but then I have 2 bridesmaids who are more pear-shaped and empire is not meant for them.

 

I was just wondering if anyone knew of lines that had a lot of variety of shapes in a single fabric (looking for a very deep purple - David's bridal calls it "Lapis") so I can see if I can do some mix & matching OR if you know of any style that just happened to work for everyone - that would be great too!

If it were me, I'd pick something in knee-length a-line chiffon with a natural (not dropped or empire) waist. I know I've seen then out there with sleeves and v or sweetheart type necklines, too. These are kind of the shapes I'm thinking:

I think longer A-line dresses will probably work best. Alternatively, if you're okay with slightly mismatching bridesmaids, you can pick a convertible dress like this:

I am going with Bill Levkoff chiffon dresses in Plum!  They have plenty of styles for all ten of my very different shaped bridesmaids to choose from.

I'd just choose a color and let them choose the style that looks good on them. Also choose a fabric that is more forgiving. Chiffon is often a versatile option.

The dress #f1555 looked great on all my bridesmaids.
I have girls from size 6 to size 22 and then in between...  It looks fantastic on all of them.

Here's my thoughts; for the best results, pick a designer, fabric, color, and hem length, and then let them pick any style they want.

If you MUST insist on matchy-matchy, then take the two girls with the most difficult bodies to shop for, such as the short plus-sized girl or if any of the pear shaped girls have pretty extreme proportional differences. Skinnier women don't have support and cling issues, so using them to shop for dresses is very misleading.

Another vote for this.  Please remember that you're asking your ladies to make a not-insignificant investment in a dress they may well never wear again.  Best to let them choose something they love, within the parameters you set.  Maybe I'm too pushover-ish.  I decided to give my ladies a length and a general color family; no specific type of fabric, no brand.  I think it will be interesting, but I really want everyone to be happy.  The differences in body shapes amongst my girls isn't as extreme as yours, but one dress clearly wasn't going to work for everyone.

Every time I see a convertible dress on a real person, I see droopy boobs. If you are into a droopy-boobed look, then choose this kind of dress. Seriously, I've NEVER seen a person wear this and not look like they had big, nursing, national-geographic style breasts. And it doesn't matter which way they wear it. The boobs ALWAYS look droopy.
