What are you working on right now?

Regarding wedding planning, projects or whatever!

I am working on booking a photographer/DJ and it's much less stressful and terrible than getting a venue. I am finally enjoying wedding planning! I am also finishing up a howl's moving castle trio of water colors, for FI's Christmas gift!

Et tu?

Re: What are you working on right now?

  • I am working on buying table linens and glassware for centerpieces. I realized it is much cheaper to buy linens and then you get to keep them. Luckily, my BFF is letting me use a lot of her little vases from her wedding so there isn't a lot I have to buy.

  • Photographers are fun. I know of an AMAZING one in NC who's willing to travel if you're interested! We wanted to hire him, but he was over our budget.

In two days it'll be our wedding month, so there is much to be done! Since I was out of commission with my mystery illness last week, I took it off wedding planning. This evening I'm going to reassess the to-do list. This week will definitely include placing our flowers and rental order for dinnerware.

NWR: Our house is a giant mess. I'm trying to deep clean, purge my closet, and get organized, especially knowing the house will soon be taken over by giant wedding-related boxes.

  • I am starting to do the dreaded seating chart. I am so not looking forward to this and I have been putting it off for way too long. I have to give my final count and seating chart to the venue in 11 days and my bach is this weekend, so I need to start on this soon.

  • I finished all 85 wine bottles yesterday! Now they are all gold and pretty with the labels removed!

Now I need to start working on the bouquets! This way I'll have enough time to order more flower if need be.

  • We got Hyrule Warriors on Friday, so, I've been working on that.

It turns out, I'm not that good at it. BUT IT'S FUN.

So yeah, until that novelty wears off, I'm going to be doing lots of video gaming and like, nothing art wise.

Yes!!! I heard it wasn't very good. Now, I am usually PC gaming like a madwoman, but this weekend my sister is coming over and we are going to marathon mario kart and drink! And SSB

  • Trying to plan a new onsite consultation with the caterer, which is difficult because fall is a busy season, and FI is only available on Fridays.  Plus, I worked my magic and got my caterer added to the venue's preferred vendor list, so I have to make sure the caterer gets all the booze paperwork over to the venue.  I may also have to change my reception dinner plan, which I won't know until we meet.  I'm a bit stressed about that.

Also trying to figure out colors.  I thought I knew what I wanted, but then we changed venues, and it's a totally different look there.  My bridesmaids already have/are getting teal/turquoise dresses, so I'm debating how much dresses need to match or "go with" decor.  (It's ridiculous to think a dress should match a decoration, right?  Please say yes!)

  • H and I are planning to move 1600 miles away on the spring. So I'm trying to start researching apartments and stuff.

Except where we plan to live is 1950 and apparently the internet does not exist. I can't even find a website for any apartment complexes, let alone reviews.

I've never played Dynasty Warriors, so it's new and novel to me. And playing as certain characters does make you feel like a total bad ass. It is frustrating at times though. But really, it's Zelda, of course I was going to buy it/love it.

YESSS Mario Kart. I am super excited for the new SSB to come out on the WiiU (can't get behind it on the 3ds, too small of a screen)

  • I'm an OMH so nothing wedding related to work on anymore.

We are hosting an open house in a few weeks after moving the end of May and spending the last two months on a kitchen remodel.  DH and I are slowly working our way through the last of our to-do items, yesterday we re-stained the back deck and it looks so much better!

Feels good to get those big projects done!!

I would just like to say that I was originally planning a winter wedding, and I wanted to wear fur. I love your picture!!!! It's so romantic.

Originally I wanted a fall wedding, but he proposed in June and 4 months wasn't enough time and I didn't want to wait until the next fall.

We took a big risk on a winter wedding (and saved a bunch of money) and it worked out great.  It snowed 6-8 inches the day of the wedding but we were so fortunate to only have one person no show, everyone else made it!

  • Ten million points for the Howls Moving Castle gift.

I'm at my day job right now, but when I get home I have 60 pieces of paper waiting to be folded, assembled, reinforced, packed with a shit ton of those dumb peanuts, lugged to the post office and shipped out.  After that I'll do a few sketches of my dress.  I like to re-draw the design because it lets me test out little changes and compare them side to side with old sketches.

  • I am working on trying to get a hold of that silly company delivering all my 9 boxes of personal effects shipped from Montreal to London. They're supposed to be here this Thursday and I've been trying to contact them for a week to confirm because FI has to take a day off to help me with those heavy boxes. Arrrrrg. Re arranging guest list and invites since just learned that FI's brother is not attending.

  • I'm going wedding dress shopping today down in NJ! Just DB so I don't expect to buy anything but we'll see.
My epics are a week from today so I have so much to do for that! Outfits, getting the dogs groomed, figuring out pics I want and obtaining any props I need. Oh and finding a place to get my hair done.

Right now I'm doing some research on photographers and caterers for the wedding. I can't meet with anyone until January or March when I'm on break from school. OOT planning sucks sometimes.

I am currently folding about 5 paper cranes a day. So far I have 115 out of 1000.

Yes, it is! My girls' dresses were turquoise and I actually took that as excuse to not need to worry about so much turquoise elsewhere. I mean, it's not like there are a lot of turquoise flowers to work with. I did sheer aqua overlays on half of the tables and some dusty aqua succulents in the centerpieces, and the rest was silver/gold/ivory/peachy pink/yellow. (I didn't really have "colors," per se, besides the bridesmaid color. Everything else was complementary.)

  • I gotta get around to calling the caterer today to try to set up to meet.  Our venue decorator asked us about cake displays, and uh - we don't know if we're doing a big cake, cutting cake w/ sheet cake, or cupcakes.  Guess we need to get on this stuff since we're about 6.5 months out now.

  • I am currently trying to sell my wedding crap since it's over. I had posted a bunch of stuff online right before my wedding thinking I was getting a great head start. Bad idea...I had 3 ladies lined up to buy stuff who have all bailed after having the extra 1-2 weeks to think/ come up with something else. Boo! 12 lantern centerpieces, sure I'll keep 1-2 for my home but I don't have room for frigen 12 of them.

@shessocold where are you moving? I thought maybe you mentioned Boston in a diff post. I live in MA, and apartment complexes are not a thing. There are 100 year old duplex's that are what get rented. The owner lives on one floor and rents the other floor or sometimes rents out the entire thing to two separate tenants. You basically have to find them on Craigslist. Don't be expecting to find a standard complex and if you do, don't expect a gym, pool, laundry, any amenities.

  • I'm currently (well, not CURRENTLY currently - currently I'm at work) in the process of tying ridiculously tiny bows onto favours.  94 down, 72 MILLION left.  When I need a break from that tonight, I'll likely paint our programs so that I can copy them this weekend.  I also check on the card box every once in a while and see if a new angle is dry enough to be mod podged.  It's almost done!  Then I have some canvasses to prep so I can do word art.

Oh right.  I still have to do my veil.  At least my shoes are blinged out to the max and ready to go (glitter - herpes of the craft world).

Hmmm..must have been someone else. We're moving to northwestern Montana. We know not to expect lots of huge rental communities, but we have find several apartment complexes but not one even has its own website. I have been looking at CL and found rentals that way, so we might just have to go that route.

  • I'm working on ceremony and reception music lists and setting up a meeting with the caterer and hopefully the cake baker. The wedding cake is supposed to come with the catering package but it's through a separate baker because they don't actually do cakes so I'm trying to figure out what the process is to book the baker that will have the cake included in the package that we got.

  • @shessocold Oh that sucks. Is it anywhere near like Bozeman or college/ university? If so, you could probably call up student affairs and find out if there's a website for apartments. My university in MA had this, where landlords would post all their stuff there instead of CL. When I moved across the country, I also used roommates.com. Most of it is people trying to find someone to move in with them, but if you found anyone in the area you could just ask them for advice on finding a place.

Ok yes definitely not a big city type of area ;) I hope you'll have internet at least! I couldn't imagine not having any. I had to live 6 whole days without it before leaving Montreal and I thought I would die lol

Yes, it's ridiculous. I don't match the Christmas decor at holidays. No need to match clothing to decor.

Think of it like putting an outfit together. You wouldn't match your scarf to your shoes to your dress to your tights to your jewelry. Or you'd be a big teal/ turquoise blob.  No definition, no interesting focal points. A sea of turquoise and teal.
Apply the same principles to your venue. Colors should be harmonious, but need not match exactly. Your brown shoes or silver flats look great with your teal coat.  So does your patterned scarf.

If you repeat the same motif exactly, over and over, people don't even see it. Like a monogrammed guest book and monogrammed napkins and monogrammed cake topper and monogrammed toilet paper or whatever. It becomes tedious.

Screw matching. Keep a unifying style, and don't stress about matching exactly.
    Color palettes actually help.
