2 in 1 wedding dress?

I am lucky enough to have 2 weddings one week apart in August of 2015, first one in Mexico and the second in Boston. My budget only allows for one wedding gown but I would like to find a way to change it up a bit and make it look a bit different. A friend of mine told me I might be able to get a mermaid style dress for the Boston wedding and then find a full skirt I can add over the mermaid part of the dress to make it look like 2 completely different dresses for the Mexico wedding. Is this a thing done? I've tried searching online and have not gotten lucky. Browsing the wedding collections has been no help either. Do wedding stores offer wedding skirts only?

I'ma put this here, because I'm really hoping you mean you're a bridesmaid/guest at two close-in-time weddings.

So, on the off-chance you're one of the four people in the entire world that can actually make these things do something useful, here's one option...
Also, if this is your own wedding, thing, this comes in ivory. Get some of those glue-on rhinestones/ask a seamstress to "bling" to taste.

I actually found quite a lot of different ones, in many different styles, just by googling "convertible wedding dress". Without knowing what sort of style you're looking for, I think it'll be easier if you do the same, in case miss out on your "dream dress".

I don't think it's possible, legally speaking, to be married and then divorced/annulled/widowed within one week (never mind I don't think you would be planning any of those!) in order to have a second wedding a week later. 

So, my guess is you're having a wedding (ceremony and reception, no matter how small), and then you're having a party to celebrate your recent marriage a week later? If that's the case, it's considered tacky and bad form to pretend that the party is a wedding, in any way. It's fine if you want to have a formal event and wear a gown, and fine if you want to have a cake, but it shouldn't be a "wedding gown" or a "wedding cake" because it's not a wedding, and to pretend otherwise is just plain tacky. OBVIOUSLY you wouldn't be having any time of repeat/fake ceremony the second time around, as that is just incredibly rude and tacky.

Since you will only be getting married at one of these events (this will be "wedding") I would wear your wedding dress to that event. 

Since the other event is, by definition, not a wedding (nobody will be getting married), I would get some other kickass dress.
