Cake topper frustration!!!

I ordered a custom cake topper from an etsy seller in June, and she gave me an original delivery date of sept. 8th. Well, when I hadn't even seen any pictures of it (I was supposed to get a photo and approve it first) by september 8th, I emailed her expressing my concern. 2 days later, she got back to me telling me that her parents were having health problem, and that she would have it completed within 8 to 10 days. I was very understanding, and felt confident at that point that I would still get my topper. My bakery requested that I get the topper to them by October 3rd. That seems early, as the wedding isn't until the 18th, but that's what they said!! And I'm the kind of person who wants everything done way ahead of time anyway, so I didn't question it. So early last week, I emailed the etsy seller again telling her about my deadline, and she simply assured me that I would have it by October 3rd. Now that it's October 1st, and I still haven't seen any pictures or heard from her since early last week, I'm officially really annoyed!! I understand family comes before work often times, but I feel like she should at least be communicating better with me!! I paid her 85 dollars back in June when I placed the order!!! I'M BEYOND FRUSTRATED!!! I think I need to now consider other options.

  • I think I would ask her for a refund at this point and explore your other options.  Can you call your baker and ask for an extension on the cake topper (Just to give you time to get something off Amazon or eBay)?  I don't remember what your cake looks like (if you posted it) but could you even ask you bakery if they would be able to just put sugar flowers on top -- or even just call them up and explain the situation and see what they recommend

    That's really horrible that she's kind of flaking out on you!!  My bridal hanger person was like that, I ordered in June and it said 3-4 weeks to ship, in mid-Sept I contacted her and she said she was working by 'need by date' -- well why not put that in the description!! 

    I hope you get everything worked out!

    You're right. I think If I don't get the topper, I would like them to do sugar flowers, but I should let them know that right away!! When I ordered the cake topper, I kept thinking, I might actually be able to make this myself, but id rather save myself the stress, and just order it. But this is turning out the be more stress anyway!
  • I have ordered a million things off Etsy in the last few months. One of the million things I purchased never arrived, similar situation to yours. I asked for a refund and my money was refunded within just a few hours!! So, refunds with Etsy are very possible if it comes to that! 
  • She just got back to me and explained to me that her father passed away. So now I feel bad... But she assured me I will still get it in time.
  • Oh no! That's really unfortunate. I would have a back-up plan just in case.
