Standing at the photocopier and feel a scurry across my toes, and I look and it's a chipmonk! An adorable chipmonk, but not really something that should be in the office.  We just spent the last 20 minutes trying to bribe it out of the office with an apple muffin, peanuts and bird seed.

Called bossman because he's not in today and he thinks it's hilarious, which it is, but I still don't know how to get it out.

ETA: We should name him.

Re: So a Chipmonk Broke Into My Office

  • lay something with peanut butter outside of a doorway...covered in birdseed!

  • I would like an apple muffin.

A chipmunk got into my house before. I caught him in a live trap baited with peanut butter, and let him back inside. Maybe two days later, the little fucker had gotten back in. (I had taken a picture.) They're pretty smart, so if you get him out but don't block the hole he came in he'll come back. I trapped him again and released him 20 miles away. No more chipmunk problems.

  • I always feel bad for animals that get stuck in buildings. How scary!

I second putting peanut butter rolled in birdseed just outside the door.

  • This is going to sound really stupid, but I'm scared that if he ventures upstairs again I might roll over him with my rolly chair!

Peanut butter and birdseed is smart. I have zero idea how he got in here.  I told bossman to bring his live trap but he's convince a chipmonk is too small to trigger it.
  • This summer FI and I went tent camping. He got up in the morning and came back and laid with his torso in the tent with his legs sticking out. A chipmunk was happily scurrying along and popped on in to the tent to say hi.

I sat up, screamed and the little fella ran laps around the exterior of the tent to find his way out. FI is laughing hysterically. Chipmunk finally finds his way out.

    Not so bad you think?

    Ya, I was naked.

  • I wish that would happen in my office. I'm bored and the only animal in here is the gross fat dude who keeps farting in his sleep. Yeah, he sleeps at his desk every afternoon.

  • I had a chipmunk run up my leg once. It was being chased by my friend's cat. We have mice, but no chipmunks in my office.

  • Awwww. In my office back in NY we have water bugs.

  • You have to help him find the door. Turn off the office lights so it's dark inside. Open the door or windows and tell the chipmunk to head toward the light.

  • They make chipmunk traps that will just trap and not kill. You can trap him and release him back into the wild.

That is what I used. Havahart brand, about $25 at Home Depot.

  • I've been staring at this word wondering why it has looked so funny to me. I just finally realized:

    I spell it chipmunk.

  • Yikes! That's icky. A mouse scurried across my foot at the Boston airport once. The people sitting next to me thought I was crazy until it ran by again.

I honestly didn't notice for a while. I think it's adorable spelled that way for some reason. It's like he's a little monk of Chip Abbey.

Do you watch The League? It reminds me of Bobbum Man and "equipmunk makes your bobbum hurty."

No, I don't. Should I be? I tend to latch when it comes to TV, and I hate commercials so for a LONG time I only watched on DVD/Netflix.

Also, I seriously thought this was going to be a thread about Evil Chipmunk doing something crazy in your office.

Sorry to disappoint lc- Evil Chipmunk is busy plotting for the ice cream ball her office is having on boss's day, along with scheduling her normal weekend activities of world domination, bourbon sippage, and snarking on various posts when chipmunk allows her some computer access.

Do you like fantasy sports? Actually I think as a football fan you'd still like it. It's hilarious.

  • I realized yesterday I spelled it wrong... but was hoping no one would notice :)
