March 2015 Weddings

Side eying other weddings

I love going to other weddings especially now since I'm planning mine! I get to see what works and what doesn't, what guest enjoy or not, and worth paying more for. I'm in my friend's wedding this weekend and I've come to realize that Welcome Bags, although cute, are totally not necessary and that's an extra $100 in my pocket. I doubt I'm the only one!

Re: Side eying other weddings

  • AGREED!!

We are now facing moving and acquiring some extra bills and I'm torn on the welcome bags... we have tons of OOT guests so we were looking forward to giving them a little something, but with 80 rooms blocked (we aren't sure how many will actually get booked) we are facing spending $1,000-$1,200 on welcome bags... While my dad is paying for the wedding I don't feel like it's his "job" to do this for our guests. So I'm torn!!! I know people would appreciate it, but I also feel like it's started to become "expected" for OOT weddings. Hmph.

  • I am doing welcome  bags with goodies like sunscreen etc. since we are having a beach wedding

  • I have never seen welcome bags at a wedding. Sometimes there will be small favors on the table, but nothing more than that. From what I have seen, a lot of favors get left behind. My cousin did stemless wine glasses for everyone that said "stolen from mr and mrs wedding" with the date and they had over 150 left behind (350 guests). I ended up with 4 of them because she was trying to get rid of them.

I was at a wedding this weekend where they gave away jars of honey as the favor. It had a cute saying on it. Its not for me, but I thought it was a cute idea.
  • @jaygeejay welcome bags aren't left at the reception like favors - they're usually collected by guests at hotel check in or sometimes delivered to their rooms. They can actually be quite useful for OOT guests, but not totally necessary either.

  • @tcnoble ok that makes more sense lol! I was thinking that you guys had welcome bags for every guest and that seems really excessive!  But I can see having something special for OOT guests. That is a nice gesture.
