RSVP cards

When your RSVP cards read "___of ___ attending" or "We have reserved ____ seats in your honor" is it considered proper to fill in that one blank that denotes how many people are invited prior to sending invites? Or do you leave it blank, allowing the guest to fill in and if it's incorrect you make those phone calls and address it?

No it is not considered rude to fill in that blank.  Actually many couples fill that number in so that it is a bit more apparent to the guest that only X number of people are invited.  Of course people will still try to add on to their invitation but this is a good way to try and prevent that from happening.
