Re: FRIDAY!!

  • Boo I can't see the video, stupid work blocking stuff.  I am pretty tired today.  I'm not sure why.  I slept pretty well.

The week flew by which was nice I'm so ready for the weekend.  Tonight we have nothing exciting going on.  We'll make some pizza and just relax.  Tomorrow we have plans to run to home depot.  We're also planning a date night, for some dinner and to see the movie Gone Girl.  I wasn't too fond of the book but I'm curious as to how the movie will be done.

Sunday we have no plans probably just some football watching and relaxing.  Although I probably should do some cleaning around the house.

    Anniversary

  • where is everyone today?

@peaseblossom55 - I read the synopsis for Gone Girl, it definitely wasn't what I expected!!  hopefully you like the movie.

we had a cold front come through last night, so it was in the 40's when I left for work!  it'll get up into the mid-60's but that is chilly enough to pull out a light sweater today.

today I'm off at noon (YAY!)  I plan to drive straight to Panera, order up a tasty lunch, and camp out for a couple hours and go over my PMP stuff.  I think H and I are going to return some boots I'd ordered online and then go eat Mexican food and get dessert.  I want to do a 5K tonight, too.  that's about all I have planned for tonight!

tomorrow I have my PMP class in the morning.  I think it's going to be a tough class because it's about Cost Management (so many formulas!)  we're meeting with my family for lunch and to celebrate my grandma's birthday.  we are going back to her house for dessert (pecan pie and homemade ice cream).  she's worried we won't make it back in time to see the OU game start at 2:30.  it bugs me SO MUCH that we have to schedule stuff around the OU games, but oh well!

Saturday evening I'll have to do more studying *yawn* and some more running, and probably some yoga.

Sunday night we're having a chili cook-off at church, so I'm going to bring a dessert.  I think I've decided on either a fresh apple cake or pumpkin butterscotch bars from Skinnytaste.  YUM.
  • @CocobellaF I hope it's a decent movie, we really only make the effort to see one or two movies in the theater a year.  I'm so jealous of your panera lunch.  I love that place.  The pumpkin butterscotch bars sounds delicious!

    Anniversary

  • Cold as hell up here today. I think the high is supposed to be in the 30s, we could get up to 2" of slushy snow, and 40-50 mph winds. Blech. What a difference a week makes.

Tonight FI and I have gaming. He's also taking the afternoon off work, so I'm excited to see what he'll do with the house.

Tomorrow we'll probably be fairly lazy, by which I mean I'll keep knitting (those damn blankets still don't make themselves) and he might keep cleaning and organizing. My mom is going to pick me up in the evening and we'll shop for wedding flowers, then I'll go spend the night at her house. We might get a blanket blocked if we get home early enough.

Sunday is for football, but mostly blanket blocking this week. I think I'll have 6 blankets to block for the show. FI will probably come down at some point during the day to join us in football.
  • @KeptInStitches - OMG that sounds awful.  I haaaaaaate winter.
  • @cocobellaf I love that you just throw running a 5K in there like it's no big deal LOL

@peaseblossom55 my friend loved the book! I still haven't read it so I don't want to see the movie yet.

@keptin stitches I can't bear the thought of snow right now!

Tonight I'm going to try to motivate myself to work out and then probably just hang out on the couch like I do every Friday night.
Saturday I have laundry and some returns to do and then I'm going to NH to see my sister and her kids. I usually end up spending the night. So then I'll probably drive home Sunday morning and have a usual lazy Sunday.

  • @KeptInStitches BOO snow!

@CocoBellaF I think we're getting that same cold front today. Highs in the low 60s all weekend and lows in the 40s. I need to bring some of my plants inside I guess. Luckily it looks like temps go back to normal after Sunday though!

It's raining today so I suppose Fi and I won't be doing any yardwork today. Hopefully we'll finish the shelving unit we're making for our basement so i can start organizing. The rest of the weekend is supposed to be nice even if it's a little chilly so on the agenda:

-Move all the wood from the front of the backyard to the back of the backyard and make a woodpile.
    -Organize and clean the basement.
    -Clean the porch.
-Buy beer for the rehearsal dinner.
-Buy more mulch and spread it around the rest of the house.

There's probably more, but I can't really remember it all right now.

  • I bought Gone Girl months ago, but have yet to read it, maybe I'll do that this weekend.

I love that it's still been warm out but it looks like fall. Not ready for the freezing temperatures yet.

KeptInStitches I may be out of the loop, but what is blanket blocking?

  • Posting and running this morning

    Tonight I work late (boo!!)
Tomorrow - I need to clean whenever I can, my house is a wreck!!  At 11:00 I have an appointment for a facial and body scrub w/MOH.  In the evening my work does a clam bake every year so I was going to go to that.  I'm hoping I have time to go to Kohls/Target between the Spa appointment and the Clam bake (I have to feed the dogs and let them run around for a bit).
Sunday - Clean more!!  Lot's of Cleaning!!  We have tickets to Motown (I think) or some other play as part of our broadway package.
Monday I have a home inspection and my house is a filthy wreck :o( .  Why do I have to be such a lazy pack rat :o( ?!  UHG!!

  • Happy Friday!!!

@CocoBellaF - Your weekends always sound so busy!

@LaPeanut1018 - Good for you guys for making the unit for your basement yourselves!  H and I are just starting to get handy with our projects.

@KeptInStitches - SNOW?!?  Why, God, why?

@Peaseblossom55 - Let us know how Gone Girl is.  I didn't read the book but think I would like the movie.

    ---------------------------

This morning was rainy and a bit cold in the 50s but it wasn't too rainy or windy so I walked to work again.  Knowing I got 4.5 - 5 miles in this morning makes me feel great and on track for a heathier weekend.  Tonight I may walk home depending on the weather and H and I will veg on the couch tonight when he gets home from Chicago.

Saturday we have a dumpster coming so H and I are cleaning out the garage and maybe tearing down a few things that need remodeling.  We have an HVAC guy coming to replace our furnace and air (air is dead and furnace is on its last leg) and an electriction to run lines in the basement we are finishing (including adding a bathroom).  I hope to get a walk in and EAT HEALTHY.  I am mad at myself for eating/drinking willy-nilly on the weekends.

Sunday H and I hope to do yard work to prep for the winter.  I might buy some Halloween decorations too and decorate.  :)  I'm sure football will be on as well.  I'm also hoping to walk again and maybe make a crockpot dish.

Any suggestions on great gluten-free, non-red-meat, non-soup crock pot dishes for the week ladies?

Yup, that's gonna be me today!!!

Tonight we have a video project to do for church, which works out great because the girls are going to their first lock-in tonight.

Saturday is full of soccer games, and I have to go open a house for an inspector. Sunday we have church in the morning and then nothing but a relaxing day of football!

@KeptInStitches - Snow? You can keep that. Our temps are still in the 90s.

@Dignity100 - Home inspection? Are you selling your house? Also, ELEVEN DAYS!!!

  • @minskat30 Maybe this one? It's a paleo recipe...soooo I don't 100% know if that equals gluten free or not. But it's really yummy! http://blog.stuffimakemyhusband.com/2012/02/ridiculously-easy-slow-cooker-chicken.html

Don't worry about being handy right away! FI dad is a carpenter so he grew up learning how to do all the Mr. Fix It/build everything stuff. It definitely helps get us a little ahead of the game.

  • Probably a post and run because work is crazy busy...

Re: Gone Girl: I loved the book UNTIL the end. It read like a Hitchcock thriller, and I couldn't put it down... but then the end was a total cop out. I hear the movie will be better than the book, so hopefully they changed the ending.

Re: Weather: I LOVE COLD WEATHER! I know I'm in the minority, but I look forward to the cold weather every year. I absolutely love it. Did any of y'all get the crazy storm in front of the cold front? A ton of people here are without power, trees were felled, etc. Lots of chaos in Dallas this week between ebola and the massive storm. A lot of schools are closed today because there's no power.

This weekend is going to be amaze balls. Today at lunch I need to run to a craft store to pick up fake flowers and ribbon in the colors I'm considering for my bouquets. My cousin who's making them said she wraps the bases first, and if I want to do a purple ribbon to match my BM dresses, I'll need to find a ribbon and send it to her. I have a feeling I'll just wrap them in white though because it seems like less of a headache. Regardless, she gave me the idea to take fake flowers in the colors I'm considering for the bouquet so I can get an idea of what the final bridal product will be. So, going to track all that down during lunch today. FI is working late tonight (boo!), so I'll probably do a long session tonight at the gym. Not sure what we're doing afterwards, but I'm anticipating an early night.

Tomorrow I need to get up around 6:30am to go to the gym, and then I need to drive down to my cousin's apartment by 9:30am. Her mom is going to meet us there, and we'll ride over to the bridal boutique together. The shop opens at 10am and is walk ins only, so hopefully we won't have to wait if we get there right at opening. Afterwards we'll grab lunch and then go to another bridal boutique to look at BM dresses. We've had our eye on a few from Bill Levkoff (and @lennonkdc's gorgeous pics made me lean towards Bill Levkoff even more!), so we made an appointment at one of the shops in the area that carries his stuff. I know it's early to potentially pick out BM dresses, but with the holidays coming up and the amount of time needed for the dresses to come in, I figured we should go ahead and pick something so everyone has time to save up for, order, and alter the dresses. And yes, I'll totally take pics and AW everything Sunday or Monday :)

Sunday is going to be really busy too. One of my cousins is celebrating her birthday at my family's favorite Tex-Mex place at 12:45pm, and then my goddaughter is celebrating her birthday at 4pm across town. At some point this weekend we'll fit in our normal errands too.

  • @CocoBellaF - Uuuuuugh I am not looking forward to my cost management class. It sounds like the absolute worst. One of my courses crammed risk and quality in together...it was hell.

@KeptInStitches - It was so nice a cool here the last couple days...and today it's supposed to storm and get crazy humid. Fall, figure yourself out.

Today I am leaving at 4:30 on the dot and FI and I are going to dinner with friends of mine. I haven't seen them much lately (distance, she's just back at work off maternity leave, etc) and I'm asking her to be a BM so I'm excited to see them and their little guy!

Tomorrow my mom and sister want to go to a wedding show so I think that will be my morning, and then FI and I are doing this car rally/photo scavenger hunt thing organized by his church. I might be going out for dinner with some of the girls from church, or FI and I might try to see his aunt and uncle who are here visiting.

Sunday will be church, nap time, NOT doing STDs because they are DONE (!!!), and then back to church. And then going home to snuggle my kitty who will be alone most of the weekend.

  • @speakeasy14, blocking knitting basically takes the raw knitting and smooths it out - evens the size of the stitches, makes the edges even, etc. For me, I knit with acrylic, but I've found I can get good blocking results by soaking my blankets in a lukewarm bath, pressing out the excess water, and pinning them to foam board. Actually, old insulation and about 300-600 rust-proof pins work great.
  • Tonight is Yom Kippur. I've got an irritating day at work today in order to leave early enough to eat before I have to fast. My undergrad forgot to put my reagents in the water bath this morning (I had an appointment from 9-10) so when I got in at 10, I couldn't deal with my cells right away. Instead, I have to miss a meeting at 11 to do it. Then I have seminar at noon, and after that, I've got to wait till about 2 or so to feed my cells (give them some time to adhere before I change the media).

I don't go to services for Yom Kippur for a lot of reasons (mostly logistical ones), but after I get home and eat, I'm going to try to do some cleaning and wedding stuff.

Tomorrow night, we're breaking the fast with my family, which should be nice and low key.

Sunday, I'm going out to my mom's house and my friend is coming over to play with my mom's dog and hang out with us. Then my friend and I are going to the Melting Pot :D:D:D:D

  • Happy Friday everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FI just told me he got tickets to see Gone Girl tonight at Alamo Drafthouse. Booze, food, and a movie that looks great - sounds like a perfect date night to me!

I'm planning on doing nothing tomorrow except for napping on the couch and designing our STD's. I made a mock-up of a design featuring four of our photos, but FI had the idea that we should do several different designs that each just have one picture. When I looked up how much it would cost, I realized that the cost per magnet would be the same even if we did several different designs, so we're going with his idea! Also this way, when we have a bunch left over, we'll have a few different pictures of us on our fridge!

Sunday is football, and my friend is trying to schedule a riding lesson at a barn near me. If she's successful in scheduling one, I'll pick her up from the train and drive her up there to watch, and then maybe she'll come over for lunch.

    FIVE MORE HOURS LEFT.

  • KeptInStitches oh that makes sense! I was picturing quilting.

Hummingbird125 I love the idea of using different photos.

I'm in a much better mood today.  Just saw that there is a Groupon for my favorite restaurant worth $40 and covers food and alcoholic drinks.  I was surprised since usually the restaurant deals only cover food and non-alcoholic drinks.  Bought one and told bf we're having date night on me :)  And all the birthday freebie e-mails are coming in so I have a folder in my inbox filled with goodies, including a $15 giftcard to my local spa.  So a massage will be in my very near future.

  • @eilis1228 I felt the same I loved Gone Girl until the end.

  • @Ollie08 - I should say 'Home Visit' from the pet sitter.  I'm a new client, so I need to walk her through my mess of a house and show her what animals she'll be taking care of and where the food and such is.

I'm really having a sad/emotional day today.  My parents agreed to watch the dogs and I just realized, I don't even want to see them, so I will ask them to pick the dogs up after I leave and before I get back.  I think I'm just feeling overly stressed with wedding stuff and it's making me overly emotional and I'm also really feeling like I don't fit in with my family... I really don't know how to explain it; deep down I know it's them and not me but on the other hand I would love to just feel at the very least accepted.

  • @Hummingbird125 - I love the idea of using 4 different pictures! We have a few more of ours on the back of the STD, and I have that pinned up at my desk

@eilis1228 and @Peaseblossom55 - I haven't read the book, but I've heard the same complaint from a bunch of people. My FSIL says they've apparently changed the end of the movie though, because so many people hated the way the book ended. I might see the movie before reading the book.

@Dignity100 - I am sorry that the actions and choices of your parents are making you feel this way. It's really not fair to you, and I would probably feel exactly the same way if I was in your position. I'm sorry that you feel like you don't fit in with your family. In 1 week and 4 days you're starting your own family with your FI...and there's no way that you won't fit into that one!! <3

  • Re: Cold weather: ugh it is SO HOT HERE today. Send some of that cold weather out to SoCal! Seriously I would gladly trade with you guys right now!

It is supposed to hit 98 at the coast today, and like 105 inland (only 10 ish miles from the coast!). Fortunately BF and I are going to Big Bear Lake this weekend, and it is supposed to be 70 during the day and 45 at night! Yay for snuggling by the fire/enjoying the hot tub on the deck overlooking the lake and not sweating and dying of this insane heat.

Tonight we are just going to clean the apartment a little and pack and catch up on TV shows. Tomorrow morning we leave for Big Bear, and we are actually going to try to leave as early as possible to beat the heat. We need to drive through the inland areas first to get there, and my car did not like the triple digit temperatures when we drove through the Mojave to Las Vegas in May. Also, BF will be riding his motorcycle, and he wears full gear, so he doesn't want to be sweltering while riding (which is also dangerous because he can't easily access water while riding to stay hydrated).

Once we get there, BF and his friend are going to go riding around the mountain roads, and BF's brother and I are going kayaking on the lake. Then we will all meet up at the cabin for dinner, drinks, hot tub, and hanging out.

Sunday we will probably grab breakfast somewhere in town, maybe hang out a little longer, and drive back home.

  • TGIF!!!   It has been a long and crazy week.

Tonight H and I are going to a local pub so he can  run sound for his friends' band.  I can't wait to go see them again. They're the same band that played our reception.

On Saturday we are sleeping and then going to see my family. Not sure if we have anything planned for Saturday evening.

Sunday we are sleeping in again, which is rare because H usually has to play in the band at church.  He is playing the evening service so thats our plan for Sunday.  Its kind of a low-key weekend which will be nice.

  • @KeptinStiches-I can't believe you have snow! Please keep it where you are, and don't send any this way. I need a good fall first!

@Dignity-So sorry you're having a rough time with family right now.

Low key weekend here too. I'm going to try and leave work early tonight and get a haircut. I hate getting my hair cut, so I don't do it nearly often enough, but these split ends have got to go. Who knows, maybe I'll even get them to put some highlights in it.
  • @Dignity100 Your parents need a reality slap ASAP. :( But, on the bright side, YOU'RE GETTING MARRIED IN 11 DAYS! Like @lmcooper86 said, you and your FI are starting a new family, which is infinitely more important. <3

@peaseblossom55 Ohhh I hope that's true about them changing the ending in the movie. I remember throwing the book across the room when I was done with it lol. Let me know what you think of the movie-- I was planning on renting it after it came out on video, but if they change the ending, it may be worth seeing in theatres.

@KeptInStitches I hate blocking. I'm always so excited to get a project off the needles, and then I remember I have to block so I'm not really done after all. Good luck on getting all the projects finished! We'd love to see pics of the finished products if possible. I'm sure you're very talented and will lots of prizes :)

@minskat30 I just went to Michael's, and all of their fall/Halloween decor was on sale. They had some really cute stuff!

@AuroraRose41 Have fun this weekend! I hope your period chilled out so you can enjoy yourself and relax!

@MsSparky post pics of your haircut! :)

Woot, I just got back from Michael's. Found some fake flowers and ribbon in the proper colors, and they had some really cute pumpkin basket things on sale that could be really great flower girl baskets... may go back later and get them. I wanted to buy the whole store and had to keep reminding myself I was there for a few things only.

Even though it's Friday, it really feels like a Monday based on how busy we are and how complicated/delicate some these issues are. I'm really hoping I don't end up working late tonight...

Also, what was the consensus on the chocolate moonshine wine and the pumpkin cider from yesterday? I may go hunt some down after work tonight or tomorrow after my appointments.

    Daisypath Anniversary tickers
  • eilis1228 -- chocolate moonshine wine was good; I had more last night and this time I could taste the fake chocolate taste, but I still enjoyed the whole glass and then some.  And @lmcooper86 said the pumpkin spice wine was good but for a glass.  I think I'm going to make some apple cider sangria this weekend, I'm in the mood for fall flavors.
