are they necessary? anyone not doing them?

I've heard yes and no on whether people think they're necessary. Our ceremony is 45 min long approx so I will have programs. I've been to weddings where the ceremony was allof 15 min. In that case I would think a program wouldn't be necessary IMO.

We are not doing programs. Typically they get left behind and I figured it to be an unnecessary expense. My thought was that I could better spend those $$ on something else.

My ceremony I plan on being around 30 minutes or so  - we are not doing programs. everyone scrambles with where to put them afterward and it's just awkward. they make good fans though.

i want programs but i dont want save the date cards and all that mess.

We are doing programs, but mostly to list order of service (lots of FI's family is non-religious and its a religous ceremony) and who the bridal party are so that people know and also have something to look at if they get thier early. We just made them on word and are going to print them on cardstock. Easy and cheap.

I'm doing programs. I'm Jewish and my FI is not. I don't want his family to be confused at what is happening. So the program will explain everything. I'm making them myself. I just ordered pretty paper and then I'll type it on word and print them.

Depending on the length of your ceremony they really aren't necessary. If you really want people to know the order or the people then why not post one large beautiful sign of the people in your wedding and the order. Programs almost always get trashed by people anyways. That's my opinion I hope it helps!
