Bought dress..day later regret

Hi! So today I went wedding dress shopping and thought I found a dress I liked and put the down payment on. After leaving I began to question my decision. I think I felt pressured to get it bc my family loves it and the people at the store asked. After thinking about it and looking at the pictures it's definitely not me and I don't think I would be happy in it. Is it too late? Am I stuck with this dress? If I call the facility and explain would they offer a refund? Wedding is a year away and no alterations were done (it was a sample gown)

  • Maybe you should go back in alone or with one person and try it on again to see if you do love it or not.  Then, if you still don't love it, talk to the manager or something and ask if you can get a refund or soemthing (they might just transfer the down payment to another dress at the same store).

  • Is there any reason why you feel like it's not you? You should call them as soon as possible and see if they are willing to do an exchange.

  • Call the dress shop first thing in the morning.  Ask them to hold the dress order.  Tell them you want to go back in and try on other dresses because you aren't sure.  Go back alone or with one person whose style and tastes are similar to yours.  The down payment you put down on your current dress should be table to be transferred to a different dress, as long as the dress salon didn't place the order.
  • The dress is kind of a completely different style then what I thought I wanted. I wanted more of a fitted/ mermaid style and this is a fuller skirt and lace. I originally wanted lace but then decided against it. It's a gorgeous dress I just don't know if it's for me. I did try on another dress at a different store that I loved but it was the first one and a little too expensive so I don't know if it's just me comparing it to that one.

Most brides are surprised to find that what they thought they wanted didn't really flatter them.  Why did you take so many people with you?  Go back to the store and try the dress again.  If you still like it, then your problem is solved.

  • It's normal to feel some buyer's remorse after you purchase something like a dress. That doesn't necessarily mean you picked the wrong dress.

If you really feel unsure, try calling the store to explain. They may let you apply the payment to a different dress, but that depends on the particular store and their policy. Then go try on the dress alone or take only one person whose advice you trust.

FWIW, I bought a dress that I realized I don't like at all. After all the emotion of dress shopping wore off, I knew I didn't like it that much and realized that I had been pushed into it by my grandmother and the sales people. I was out all the money that I spent on the dress, but I was able to find another (very inexpensive) dress that I really love. I don't know how much your downpayment was, but if you really don't like the dress and the store doesn't offer any options, you could forfeit your deposit and look for another, inexpensive dress.

  • I'm sorry you're feeling dress regret. If I were you, I would call the store ASAP and find out what can be done. Let them know you are feeling regret and see if they can hold the order. Maybe the down payment can be used towards another dress. Go back in by yourself or with just one most trusted shopping companion. Hopefully the store will be understanding and will let you re-think your purchase as long as you still shop with them.

This.  I thought I wanted a slim fit, all lace, open back, with straps dress.  What I ended up falling in love with was an all satin, modified a-line, sweetheart neck with a one shoulder dress.  So yeah, what you think you want is more often then not what you end up falling in love with.

Go back to the store (if you have not done so already) by yourself and try it on again.  See what you feel and then go from there.
