Accessory/Bouquet Matching

My bridal life would be so much simpler if my dress just had gold embroidery, but it doesn't - it has pewter. My bridesmaids are wearing sparkly gold dresses, my wedding colors are gold and ivory. My shoes are a light metallic gold and they look nice with the dress - which is ivory. I've also decided to give a go at making a jewelry bouquet. The bouquet is not finished - I still need to do something wit the underside and maybe trim the flowers down in some spots. I showed my fiance and he said it looks cool, with a bit of a 20's vibe....not sure that goes with my dress though.

Question: Does my bouquet (which is still a work in progress) look ok with my dress (or is that even a thing that matters?)
Question 2: I want to wear the clip in the photo - I think the gold might be too yellow, should I just get the silver metal? Same question with earrings and a bracelet - I want to have lots of either pearls or sparkly rhinestones in my jewelry, but I need to pick a metal - should it be gold or silver?

Re: Accessory/Bouquet Matching

  • I think that you can mix metals. It's alreadt in your bouquet.
    Happiness is an inside job
  • If you're trying to drown out the pewter in your dress and get more gold, go with gold jewelry. You CAN mix metals, but I think the overall effect you're going for will be easier if you stick with gold.

    That bouquet is gorgeous, btw!
  • Mix those metals, girl!

You're overthinking this. Any combination of metals will look lovely, especially with your bouquet to tie it in.

  • You have the jewelry bouquet.  You have an ornate dress.  Now you're talking earrings, hair clip, bracelets...  You should edit with a critical eye and not put on everything you can find.  The bouquet or accessory won't stand out if you're wearing everything all at once.

Coco Chanel once said “Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take one thing off.”

  • Agree with all above. Yes to mixing metals (they're all neutral, after all) but no, you don't need to add more jewelry. I would do just simple crystal earrings and hairpiece but no necklace or bracelet as they'll only make you look like a glitter explosion.

  • The bouquet looks just perfect and I think you should get all sterling silver jewellery for your wedding as this will look perfect with your dress.

    THIS!!!!

I like the hair piece.  I would go gold with that and then just stop.  Maybe a small earring, but I wouldn't do a necklace, and certainly not a bracelette.  That would be too much bling and just start to look like you threw on everything you owned.

I really like your bouquet and I think that will shine enough for the rest of you!

  • I don't think the pewter in your dress screams pewter. In my opinion in the photos it comes across more bling them metallic. So I think you would just find with the gold items you have picked out. I second PP about how big you go with the jewelry, when the detail in your dress and then the bouquet, if you had a lot of jewelry too, it may be too much. Instead of people's eyes looking at all the different details, it may look like a big bling fest. But if you really want to add the jewelry, maybe consider adding it for just the reception since you won't be carrying around your bouquet at that point.
