I really liked it. I felt like it was a strong start, with a lot of really great characters making their intros.
The clown is farking scary, people. When he was running at the girl, when he snatched the boy and that scene with is eyes darting back and forth like a Felix clock? We did have to laugh when he was standing around watching the carnies slice up the cop, b/c you know he was thinking, "These are my people!"
But the accents? Lange needs to just STOP. She drops them all the time. Just don't do it if you don't want to. And we're trying to figure out Bates'. She's too good an actress, but so far the guesses are all over the place. I was thinking extreme Northern/Canadian and my old theatre prof was guessing Gullah, while someone else was saying N. Carolina. I'm assuming we'll find out later.
I really like the look of the carnival and the set as well. It's all so colorful, but they're really muted colors. The carnival is it's own presence and I like that a lot.
