Re: On a scale of 1-10.....

  • WHAT IS THIS WIZARDRY?
  • Disney just about blew my mind with this cake!

With that being said, probably 7. But I will still beg SO to consider it.

  • I think it's awesome personally.

  • Part of me thinks it's completely ridiculous, but then the part of me that is permanently 7-years old thinks it's AWESOME.
  • That cake is amazing! But totally ridiculous.

  • @Moiramab OMFG THAT OWL IN YOUR SIGGY IS SO FUCKING CUTE.

Ughhhhhhh can I just register for a pet owl?  I demand owls.

  • For wedding, I say 10 ridiculous.  For a super cool birthday party or theme party, I think it's awesome.  There's just something about a couple being SO INTO DISNEY that it's their main wedding theme that makes me worried about how they will realistically deal with the future.  Obviously not all Disney couples are ill-equipped, but I've personally seen a few weddings go overboard with the Disney stuff when they should really have been focusing on improving their terrible communication skills instead.

On another side note, I shudder to think how much this costs.  But hey, if you have the money, I can't hate too much.  I still want my  Louboutins.

Annnnd.....I just noticed I said "One a scale..."  not "On a scale...."  Teaches me to knot and multitask.

  • This is (allegedly) a $12,000 CAKE
WTF.  I could buy like 10 pairs of Loubotins for that!  As long as we're talking about senseless spending, that is.

    Stuck in box!

I'm with you, @levioosa (and I dig the user name).  I know this is the snarky board, and I feel bad saying this, but I don't get adults who just loooove Disney.  I like roller coasters. But Disney ... they're much better with their girl power stuff and it's not as princessey in modern times, but ugh.

Anyone who thinks they're really going to live happily ever after is delusional.  This is a 15 on a scale of 1 to 10.

  • Ok I dig the lettering effect.  But I genuinely hate the words themselves. Why couldn't they use a line from literature or something.  I can think of a million other quotes, that are wedding appropriate that don't make me want to barf.

Here are some more gifs from the cake.  ETA: So you could see why I snarked so hard. The lettering thing could maaaybe be nice, but I'm still not a fan.  No, this cake goes way overboard.

@thisismynickname  I live in Southern California, so I see a lot more Disney weddings than you would think.  I love me some Disney movies, but I also can separate them from reality.  Most of the "Prince Charmings" are spineless wimps who fall in love with looks.  Why would I want my wedding to emulate that?

It's $12,000.00 because you can only get it with one of their wedding packages, the cake itself is not $12,000.00.

I want to see what an actual $12,000.00 cake looks like.

Actually I just want $12,000.00 worth of cake.
^THIS.  Show me the cake, people.

  • According to this article, Chelsea Clinton's (gluten-free) wedding cake was between $10-12,000.  And Kim Kardashian's cake (from her second marriage - the 72 day sham one) was $20,000.

I personally think the OP cake is tacky looking.  Cakewrecks did a post about it (and a few other similar cakes) for the Sunday Sweets feature last week and I have to admit the Donkey Kong one actually makes me a little giddy though.

  • On a scale of 1-10... a 64.

You know there's no way that cake tastes good. Sacrificing taste for something that can hold LEDs and fiberoptics and shit is a crime against cake.

  • I think it's kind of lame. From what I've read, it uses projections. So when the projector is off, the cake is plain white ugly cake. I think it would be more impressive if the projection interacted with 3D decorations on the cake. Otherwise, it doesn't seem that hard in terms of cake decorating.

And unless you have the projection running the entire time, that means that for probably 90% of your reception, it's an ugly ass cake. No thank you.

  • Yeah, I hate this. I can't even handle coloured uplighting and crap, much less projections on a cake.

  • It's a projector. My husband has done some light mapping for work. When I spoke to him about it, he said the equipment would cost approx $80k to pull this off. But it probably cost Disney next to nothing because they already have the projectors, software, etc.
  • The writing was kind of cool, but the Tinkerbell, Cinderella, etc. images are meh. No. It's not a little kid's birthday party.
  • If by ridiculous you mean ridiculously awesome, then it's a 10+!

Okay, I probably wouldn't have it for my own event, but it's cool to watch.
