Will this look too boring?

I'm bored (cuz clearly I don't come to work to actually work) and this question has been on my mind for a couple weeks, so maybe you Knotties can help.

Our wedding colors are white, pale pink, and some gold accents (with some mint green and other shades of pink mixed in). Our table linens are white, with white vases for the tables, flowers in different shades of pink, white, ivory, lots of greenery, gold votives, white candles, white plates.

I was originally going to put other stuff on the tables (long tables that seat about 30 ppl each, not round ones) but because we're doing "family style" dining, we have to leave room for the food. So now I'm wondering if all the white on white on white is going to look boring and half-done. I was thinking of maybe adding gold sparkly table runners or gold chargers to put under the plates? Something so that it doesn't just look blah but still keep it simple and not get too carried away.

The overall idea was supposed to be just soft pale colors (wedding is in early May), some vintage charm (because I've always been obsessed with antique stores and things with history), and a LITTLE bit of glam/sparkle. What do you guys think I should do about these tables?

  • I think the gold table runners or gold chargers will be a great idea!I Maybe not too glittery though? Maybe instead of white vases use one of your other colors? Or maybe have a combination of different colors? Like have a white vase with pink and green flowers and then have a green vase with white and pink flowers ect?

Thanks! Unfortunately the white vases have already been purchased so I can't do much about that now. I just don't want it to look like I "forgot" to do something with the tables :s

  • Ditto @buttercup1958. I think that the table runner would do a lot to spruce up the tables. Side note: I am loving your color combo!

  • I think it would be fine, but I like both ideas if you have the budget for it!

I like the idea of chargers, but since I'm having a buffet, I was sort of worried about people thinking they were the plates... plus it's a picnic reception so probably a little too fancy underneath plastic plates!

So I will probably go with runners.  I bought a bunch of options from smartyhadaparty, and they were super cheap.

I would add runners or sheer overlays to break up the white-on-white. The contrast will help your vases/flowers "pop" a little more too.

I used a combination of aqua and antique gold overlays on mine... the overlays were $4-something at weddinglinensdirect.com. The color was very subtle - you can kind of see it here, with the contrast against the white napkin in the bread basket. I don't have pro pics back yet.

  • If you have the budget I think runners would be beautiful on the long tables and I think soft muted colors are beautiful!

We didn't really have "colors" my MOH wore a champagne/beige and black dress and all of our flowers and candles were white.  I think it was beautiful.  ;)

I'm sure your tables will be beautiful no matter what you decide.

  • Have you thought about confetti? I like the table runner idea more, but confetti is always an option and can be used on other things like the cake table/gift table/high top cocktail tables...

I could send you the etsy info for it

  • SaraBrideSoon thank you! The color scheme was hard for me... I paint and I love to use pretty much every color in existence. My mantra became "just keep it simple!"

I love confetti, but our venue actually has in their contract that it's not allowed :(

  • I think it sounds beautiful as is! My initial thought if you do want to add something was a runner, or maybe even could add some glittery/gold touches to the vases?  Something like this effect?

Or you could maybe try colored napkins to add some color?

  • doeydoAlisonM23 thank you both for the pictures! :)

  • That sounds very similar to my table decorations. We had long tables too. The only difference was I had navy napkins at each place setting.

I'll attach pictures when I get home from work later.

I don't think it looked too plain.

Something like this could be pretty as a table runner! And cost effective! $8 for 10 yards!

ETA: Clearly I don't feel like working today either :)
  • I like the all white decor but adding a sheer gold runner could be the trick to adding some pop to the overall look.
  • I think I'll do a burlap runner. That will look really stylish and chic, right? JUST KIDDING! :)

I just choked on my coffee; thanks for that.

I missed the line about them being long tables. If you have/can get pink or gold napkins, I like the look of them draped off the edge of the table. Adds to the look of the table but it's something you'd need anyway rather than an added expense.

  • I dont know what height the vases are, but you could always do a neat bow or something with the wire edged ribbon.  It would hold its shape with the wire edges, and some of them are fairly wide so it might break up the white on white if you still feel it necessary.

Your colours are like mine: pale pink/blush and ivory/cream but we are not having mint. Just the gold accents. We are using matte gold plate boards/chargers under every plate and crystals threads dangling from our centrepieces. We are gonna have semi-long clear vases with a ball of ivory and blush carnations on top. and everything will be surrounded by little tea lights. Maybe some of your sparkle could come from some similar accessories? I love vintage charm too so I think that would look great as accents too!

  • what about menus? If you had some pale pink napkins draping off the table with gold menus on top I think it would look amazing against the white.
  • @novella1186, these are my colors too!  For our celebration of marriage party, we are doing a bronze colored runner on top of ivory table cloths, with flower boxes made from pallets (FI is pretty handy) with our rose/blush/ivory flower arrangement in the middle of the table. (They are small)  We are using mismatched "vintage" (aka from yard sales collected over time) dinnerware with rose/blush/ivory accents.  We thought about using chargers, but decided not to because this isn't technically a "wedding reception", and we thought it might be too formal. I think gold or champagne chargers would look awesome though with those colors to make everything stand out!

  • Thanks for all of the ideas! I love it!

  • What about hoaving a few flowers beinga brighter pink for a bigger pop of color.  Doesn't need to be hot pink, but something maybe in the mauve family?
  • One thing that my florist told me was to make sure that each place had a place setting no matter if we were doing a buffet or a plated meal. That way the table looks finished. I think your tables will look beautiful, but a charger or runner would definitely add a little pizazz.
