Wedding Woes

Stupid Monday

How was the weekend?

Saturday was soccer.  MIL and sFIL came and sFIL slept through the whole thing.  I really think he has apnea, but he won't get checked.  DH needed a haircut and they all wanted to go.  I was going to use a discount card today, but since it was $7 Saturday they all went ahead.  $40 for 4 haircuts including tip.  Yep, that'll be cheaper than what I spend next Monday.

Sunday we went to the Pumpkin Patch.  We realized if we didn't do it yesterday it might not happen and that would be a bummer.  We got two invites for Halloween parties the same night.  One we would like to go to and one at BIL's (family friendly from 7p-1a).  Thankfully it's picture day so we have to decline them both.

This week is amazingly full and 6let only has one day of school.  DH is going to try to at least take Friday afternoon off to get the kids out of my hair so I can do final Bunco prep. I need a night of fun.

Re: Stupid Monday

  • How could I forget the best part of Saturday?  DH smoked 2 racks of ribs!  One was on the verge of spicy for my taste, but with the other milder one it was perfect.  6let was loving them too.

Now I want to do chickens.  Kroger has them on sale so maybe next Sunday.

  • Friday night we were invited out to drinks.  We haven't been to a bar in who knows how long.  It was fun.

Saturday was DD1's last soccer game.  Then I took her for her first real haircut (I have trimmed it twice but am ready to turn this over to someone who actually knows what they are doing).  We only took off the dead ends.

Sunday I did some wedding running for my sister and took Son to see Annabelle.  I got groceries and helped DH finish cleaning the garage.  I'm so glad that's done.  Everything is put back where it goes and all the winter stuff was found and ready to use.
  • Congrats NOLA and mrs.conn!  Big changes all around.

We had a wonderful, long weekend.  DD was off school Friday, so we spent a three day weekend in the mountains and it was heaven.  Rained on and off, but we managed to miss most of it.  Took the Blue Ridge Parkway for the last 30 min. of our drive and the views were just stunning.  DS did his first big hike in the backpack carrier and loved it.  (DH didn't love it quite as much, but he survived.)  DD led the charge and kept telling us to hurry up, as DH hauled a 25# kid on his back, vs. DD's daypack containing a bottle of water, a fruit snack, and half a dozen crayons.  Made it back down before the rain started, grabbed a late lunch, and headed to our (rented) cabin.  By the time we got there, the rain had stopped again, and we were able to sit in the big swing on the covered porch and look out over mountains upon mountains--it was gorgeous.  Rain returned and killed our campfire plans, but everyone was tuckered out and not too sad about turning in early.

Took the kids to a little local amusement park Saturday, where we dodged more rain before it cleared.  Not as much for DS there, but DD had a great time and went on the tilt-a-whirl 4 or 5 times.  DS, being DS, was happy to ride in the wagon and people watch and nap on me when he got tired.  Got home yesterday afternoon and have been browsing cabins for sale, even though there is no way we're buying one.  Just daydreaming.  I do need to make plans to return in the winter for snow tubing, which is DD's favorite--maybe MLK weekend.

Now I'm back at work, my office is freezing, and my mom is emailing me about some kind of drama:  she "can't talk at work" but is "creeped out" by something that she's "not supposed to talk about."  That's worrisome.  She's going to call me tonight, and I'm pouring a generous glass of wine for this one.

Oh, and at the amusement park?  This little boy (three-ish) dropped his pants in line for the Ferris wheel and proceeded to pee on the asphalt.  At first I thought this was just little kid impulsiveness, until his dad announced to anyone within earshot that it was cool, because they didn't want to get out of line and now he didn't have to take the kid to the bathroom.  o O  It was almost worth it, just to see the look on DD's face.  She actually wanted to wear her pearls that day (I said no), and if she had, she would have clutched them into powder within seconds.
  • Morning. My house is a mess, but I'm okay with it because the new tile is looking great.

Friday I packed the kids up and we went to my parent's house. Unfortunately, both kids got crappy night's sleep (DS didn't go to be until 11 pm) so Saturday we spent relaxing at their house because they were crabs. Sunday my parents took DS to church then we met up for lunch. Came home Sunday night to see the progress and so that I could work this week. DH is about 1/3 the way done with tiling and the paint is about 80% done, which is way more done than I expected. He's going to continue working on it this week and hopefully have the tiling done this weekend. The house is a mess- dust everywhere, I have no kitchen, and so much stuff misplaced but my usual OCD self is totally fine with it.

This morning I woke up with DS sick so he's staying home. I'm going to work for a bit then take the rest of the day off to spend with him and do some chores. I'm hoping DD doesn't get what he has.
  • We managed to do all of the laundry and I conquered ironing mountain.  We also cleaned out the garage.  We're nearly prepared for winter, with just a few small chores now (covering windows and going out to the leaf dump one last time).  This is the earliest we've ever done it.  I'm pretty proud of us.
  • Friday Buffy and I went to donate blood, but my iron was to low (boo!), but she still got a cookie outta the deal.
Saturday she and I did heaps of nothing (ok, folded part of laundry mountain and I made cookie dough) and my folks came over for a bit--nothign big (I worked as smart phone helpdesk for them).  I wanted to go do stuff but Buffy really wanted to stay home, and she was still feeling a little cruddy, so rest @ home won out.

Yesterday was church for me and for Buffy while  the Mr. went to help his BFF w/ a building project and then Buffy and I made awful halloween decorations--I mostly cut stuff out and gave her carte blanche with glue and felt bits.
