If you're into nature, Costa Rica or Belize. Rainforest + hot springs + beaches.
  • FI and I originally were going to go through Sandals and go to St. Lucia. Everything looked beautiful and the reviews were great. We decided not to go there simply to save money. Being that we are getting married right after Christmas, it is peak season and airline prices are very high.

Now we are going to a resort at Pompano Beach. We are very excited to have warm weather in December!

  • @lolo883 - How loud was that beach??  It's n our list of cool places to see, though I can't imagine wanting to spend the day there with the noise and sand blowing everywhere.

We did a cruise for our HM (our first cruise actually).  We got a great deal.  We started in Venice, then hit Croatia, a Greek island, 2 days in Israel, 2 days in Egypt, Turkey and finished in Athens.  WE then fled to Istanbul to end it, cos we figured we were there.  It was pretty amazing.

We originally weren't planning on doing a HM, since we went to Hawaii to get married.  But after an extra 5 days with our families after the wedding, and some cash in the bank, we figured we deserved a HM with just us.  ;)

  • @WinstonsGirl we didn't actually spend any time there - we drove by in a cab as a plane was flying by overhead. We shopped/meandered the French side for the morning and the Dutch side for the afternoon, as then-FI lamented having gone there during his drinking days. :)

Ahh, too bad.  I've watched a few videos of flights there and it looks pretty cool.  We also want to go swim with the pigs in the Caribbean too.  Someone here posted it a while ago and I thought it looked like so much fun.  http://news.distractify.com/fun/animals-fun/theres-an-island-where-wild-pigs-and-humans-hang-out-together-and-you-need-to-go-there-now/

  • We're planning to go to Antigua. Everything is booked (so excited!). We wanted a lazy honeymoon near the beach and there was a good deal on a resort in Antigua. If you're looking for more of an adventure kind of vacation, we were looking at Belize and the resorts we were looking at all seemed to be foresty adventure packages.

St Maarten airport is pretty small.   It's not like JFK where a flight is landing every 2 minutes.   They might have +/- a dozen large planes a day (a lot less certain times a year). . With a few more little ones from other islands.  Few planes stay overnight, so an hour or so after landing the are taking off.

The busiest time of the day is the afternoon.    I would not stay there all day, but it's pretty cool to hang out for a little while.  The Sunset Beach Bar is close enough to see, but far enough away not to be bothered by the blowing sand from the planes taking off.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • We went on a cruise for our honeymoon. It was 17 days long. We were in port about 10 days and at sea 7 days so it was a nice mix of relaxing and walking around exploring new places. We left from Boston and visited Newfoundland, Labrador, Greenland, Iceland, the Faroe Islands, Norway and ended in Amsterdam. We spent 4 days in the Netherlands and 1 day in Belgium. An AW picture of us in the outdoor hot tub at the back of the ship off the coast of Greenland.

  • We're headed to Aruba in 3 weeks for ours! Staying at the Ritz Carlton and REALLY looking forward to our 7 days of fun, sun, booze, awesome food and doing anything we want - or nothing at all!
  • We went to Belize for 10 days.  We spent the first 5 days on an island off the coast, so there we ate, drank, and did some snorkeling.  It was pretty relaxing and the beach was amazing.  The last 5 days went spent in the interior in the jungle, we did a lot of excursions saw Mayan ruins(one was a day trip to Guatemala),zip lining, cave tubing, and we did a cave exploration too.  We loved it.

We also go down to the Bahamas every year on Paradise Island.  It's nice and quiet there and very relaxing.

  • Thanks ladies!!
