Wedding Vows & Ceremony Discussions

Music.

I have no idea what to do for ceremony music, suggestions?

We're meeting with the church musicians tomorrow to discuss music. They play organ, piano, and clairnet. My best friend is a professional flautist an we have a family friend who sings beautifully. I'm just totally lost when the musicians at the church ask "what are you looking for for music?"

Re: Music.

  • At our church, the songs had to be religiously based.  Since I sing in a group at the church (heading over there soon, actually, for Sunday Mass) and they were singing for our wedding, this was no problem.  Check with your officiant to see if there are any restrictions (Like, walking down the aisle to a flute rendition of "I'm Sexy and I Know It" would probably be a no-go...though now I really want to get a flutist to play that song just for fun!)

Italian music can be romantic. Vivo per Lei, La Donna e Mobile, I Belong to You... Check out Andrea Bocelli's music and you'll get good ones you can use.

If your church does not allow non-religious music for the ceremony, then you can also have a good number of religious music to choose from - Ave Maria by Schubert, The Prayer by Celine Dion,  How Great thou Art, Panis Angelicus...and a few others which can sound great with the available instruments and musicians you have.

Modern songs and music for the ceremony has become a rising trend these days. Have you seen the viral JK wedding entrance? it's fun and awesome! But always check with your church if you are allowed to do this.

Here are other lists of music that you can choose from for your wedding. http://weddingwhoop.com/wedding-songs-for-a-church-ceremony/

  • I was in the same situation as you are. I had no idea what kind of music I wanted played at my wedding. Luckily, my sister-in-law will be the organist. When I met at the church with the organist and my SIL they played a few songs for me. They also told me of when an upcoming wedding was, so I could go listen to the organist and soloist to get an idea of what I would like, (I can sit up in the choir area with the organist and won't be seen at the wedding) .
I'm not that picky, so I just asked my SIL to play whatever, because it all sounds beautiful! I am getting married in the church, so they only allow religous music to be played as well.
