Tea Length Dress with Bridesmaid dresses

Ok so I have been married before and I am not a young bride (35) so I am considering a tea length dress. We are have a very small destination wedding in HI. Does anyone have pictures or a reference point if this type of arrangement even looks ok?? I am wanting to do pictures in and near the water also a consideration that tea length may just look stupid and I should go with traditional.

Re: Tea Length Dress with Bridesmaid dresses

  • I was in a wedding last year that did this! Looked great!

  • My step-sister did a tea-length dress with knee-length bridesmaid dresses, and they all looked lovely. I don't want to share a picture without her permission though.

Do you actually WANT a tea-length dress, or do you just think you're supposed to wear one? You go ahead and rock whatever darn length dress you please! It doesn't matter how old you are or whether you've been married before. And 35 is NOT old.

  • Just because your 35 and been married before doesn't' mean that you can't wear a full length dress if you want to. That being said, if you want wear a tea length dress because that is what you want, no reason you can't do it. I would personally would just have any BM also in a tea length or shorter dress to compliment your dress.
  • Oh shoot.  I thought you wanted pictures of tea length dresses on a beach area, not next to bridesmaids.  Well, here are some more pictures, I guess:

  • Make sure you have really amazing shoes and a great pedicure if they're open toe.  I personally don't care for tea length because it cuts many people off at a bad place, especially if they're already shorter.  Also, if it hits at a wide part of the calf, it can make for kankles.  Sometimes this looks like a dress that's simply too short.

Make sure it's flattering on your body and you really love it.  Then make sure the length is right--have it hemmed if it's not the right spot or you're petite.

And then get the awesome shoes and pedicure so it's well executed.

    Example:
Girl in the first pic is certainly thinner than girl in second pic.  Yet girl in second pic wears it better because the proportions are better and the dress is a little shorter.  If you do this, have a really critical eye about the length and proportions.

Shorter is often more slimming--find the length that flatters your leg shape:

Too long?  Looks like you're wearing a dress that's too short for you.  Or it was hemmed too high.

Tea length can be difficult to get just right, so I'd be very careful.  Take someone with an eye for that sort of thing, or ask a seamstress.
  • Thank you so much!!
  • @lolo883 HAHA no but it is May in HI so I am thinking a shorter dress would be good and since it is on a beach I am not wanting to be in a huge dress but my body type isn't going to be very flattered in a mermaid style dress. =D
  • @doeydo This is perfect since the girls are going to be in shorter dresses I wanted to see just this the juxtaposition of wearing a tea length with them in short dresses as well.  I am hoping since I am tall I can pull it off but I will for sure be taking pictures before any purchases are made!

Well then great! I'm sure you'll find something gorgeous.
