Negative First Anniversary Celebration!

So Friday is our negative first anniversary! Woo hoo! We want to do something fun since we have a rare night to ourselves! Was wondering if any of you ladies who had an engagement of over a year did anything fun! I'm going to get him a cupcake from our favorite spot and we will probably do dinner or something like that out in the city.

We were only engaged 9 months. But when we had 6 months to go, we went back to the place where we got engaged (and had our first date) and had drinks. It wasnt fancy or planned. We happened to be in the area but it was nice to toast to occassion.

I am not 100% sure what this is, but I am assuming 1 year out from your wedding? We had an 18 month engagement so when the 1 year mark came I was so pumped and was like "we are getting married in 1 year!!!" and H (then FI)  smiled and kissed me....

But if you have the night to yourselves AND it's a Friday night why not celebrate? Maybe go where he proposed? Have dinner at the hall where you are getting married? Or maybe nothing wedding related just a nice night together! Have fun!

Aw that's awesome! We got engaged in Nashville so we can't do that. I was looking to see if I could find the beer from the brewery we went to after to celebrate somewhere here, but no luck so far

We didn't do anything special.

But then again we rarely do something for our anniversary.

We will only have been engaged for 11 months when we get married, but our 6-month mark was this past Saturday and I celebrated by picking up my dress from the bridal store Totally not planned, that's just how it worked out.

Haha yeah. It's 1 year until our wedding so it's like a negative number (my fiancé and I are both nerds.) he actually was the one to want to go celebrate! Unfortunately we can't go to where we got engaged or where we are getting married. We did just get a few bottles of bubbly and engraved champagne flutes from my brother and sister in law so perhaps a night in!

Sounds like fun!!!!! We probably will celebrate when our negative 1 year happens, our engagement will be over three years long when we get married. Plus it'll be my Birthday. So be tween my birthday celebration and us realizing we only have a year left till we're married we'll be excited.

This is so much better than I thought it would be!!! I clicked thinking your first anniversary did not go well. I think a night in sounds good. You only have 365 more days to enjoy pre-marital sex. Enjoy it while you can!

When I read the title, the first thing I thought was "oh sad, someone had a negative experience for their first anniversary.."  

Lol! We were engaged 14 months. Honestly, I don't remember if we DID anything for the -1. I do remember we had some excited chatter like "squeee!! we're getting married a year from today!" But this is coming from the couple who got take out chinese and watched an old western on their 1st anniversary, so.....

Haha I just spit out my coffee at the 365 days left of premarital sex. We did just get a new bed yesterday so we will work on breaking it in!

Although, now that I am thinking about it- isn't your negative first anniversary your wedding day?

Well, new terms aside, it's definitely exciting to celebrate being a year away from your wedding.

ETA: I am not going to delete but I think I get it now! LOL I was thinking that on your wedding day you are a year away from your first wedding anniversary. I get now that the negative is literal.

H and I are the same way.  We do use the anniversary as a reason for eating cake though.  But we typically try to find any reason on any given day to eat cake.

We acknowledged our 1 year till the wedding but didn't really do anything special. We did celebrate our engagement anniversary just 2 months prior to a nice dinner at the restaurant we went to the night H proposed. It was the only time we were going to celebrate it!

I got FI a card and his favorite candy. He got me some sweets and a movie on his way home from work.  Nothing major.

A night in sounds fun, or go to a new restaurant you've been wanting to try.

When we were one year out, we went out to dinner with my parents, since they were extremely active and helpful in the planning process. It was a nice celebration!

I wish we could do that but both of our parents are out of the country! We are celebrating with his kids on Sunday though by going apple picking!

We'll have been engaged for over a year and a half when we get married, and now we're just a little more than 6 months out. I did not know negative anniversaries were a thing! I think at the one year mark I was just like "yaaaay 1 year!" and that was about it. 

FI did tell me that for my birthday in a few weeks, he's taking me back to the place where we first met, which I thought was so sweet of him! I can't wait

Aw that is sweet! We recreated our first date on our first anniversary!

We were recovering from a wedding we had attended as guests.  And my Dad and his H were visiting.  I don't think we'd officially get our date yet, either, but had it narrowed down to that day or one about two weeks earlier.  I'm looking forward to our anniversary next year since it will also be Thanksgiving.  Though, I suppose since it will be our anniversary, I'll have to compromise about the parade and watch less of it.  Sadz.

We were only engaged for 9 months. But the 13th of every month leading up to it, I'd excitedly yell "ONLY X MONTHS TO GO!!!" and he'd look at me like I grew a third eyeball and then say "I love you honey" with that "you're kind of psycho but that's OK" look on his face.

That is so me.

Also, I decided that we should celebrate 1000 days married (which I knew easily thanks to TK!) and he went along with this amazing celebration date that we had. Which also happened to be a few days after Valentine's Day. So the waiter was like, "Oh, you guys must be celebrating V-Day this weekend!" And I was like, "No, We are celebrating 1000 days of marriage." Blank stare.

I would have loved to tell a waiter (or anyone) that we were celebrating our negative first anniversary. I love a fun reason for a nice dinner and champagne.

I'm not sure it is "a thing" but it's something we are doing! Most of my friends have gotten married in less than a year of being engaged but the few who haven't all did a little something to celebrate. Any excuse to celebrate being in love is a good idea in my book!

We were engaged for over 2 years. The first year, we were apart for the wedding date, so we didn't do anything. Last year, we went to a minor league baseball game with a married couple we're good friends with. Nothing fancy, but we definitely had a lot of fun.

We had a "negative one-aversary" too, so we went out to a nice dinner at the restaurant where we'd booked our reception for the following year.

I'm all for the idea if it's just the happy couple. Roping anyone else into it is AW-ish, in my opinion. Edit: Except for parents. Dinners with parents are very nice; mine were incredibly helpful with wedding stuff too

We went out for our negative year anniversary to. We went to our favorite place that he took me on our unofficial first date and we go back to occasionally. I just txt FI to ask if he wants to go Sunday night after we get back from our hmoon, because we have Beauty and the Beast Show tickets at 1pm.

And yeah, my parents are super helpful with it but they are away anyway so it's just us on Friday and then with his kids on Sunday!
