Re: Newbie Alert

  • Welcome! What's your favorite flavor of Dippin Dots? What's your favorite alcoholic drink? What was your biggest Pinterest disaster?
  • @KeptInStitches Thank you!! My favorite flavor of dippin dots is regular vanilla or birthday cake. I've become quite a light weight since my heavy drinking college days, but give me a Blue Motorcycle or a Rum punch and I'm happy. And I'm just getting into Pinterest, so I haven't had any disasters yet lol
  • Welcome! Where have you traveled to?

  • @speakeasy14 Inside the US I've been to Vegas, Boston, Florida, Atlanta, Virginia, New York, New Jersey, Tennessee, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Kentucky. Outside of the US I've been to jamaica, the Bahamas, Mexico, Bermuda, Canada, Grand Cayman Islands...pretty much a lot of major cruise destinations.
  • Welcome! I just showed up here recently as well!

Have any cosmetology secrets you'd care to share? What's the best live show you've been to?

As one of the few not engaged gals on here, I love to talk about engagement hopes. What's the engagement timeline you guys are talking about right now? How are you feeling about it? I'm being terrible because we HAVE a timeline, but I keep thinking it should be shorter, haha.

  • Welcome! How did you and your BF meet?

How do you feel about people that don't like Purple?

    Still here and still fabulous!

  • justadream0315 I've been on a lot of cruises too.  I've been on Princess, Royal Caribbean, Carnival, Celebrity, and Norwegian.  Norwegian and Royal are my favorite.  And Carnival I hated.  Who do you sail with?

  • Hi there!

What part of the world are you from?
How do you feel about guacamole?
What's the last book you read?
    Do you watch TV?

  • @AlPacina Thanks! The best live show that I’ve been to is a tie between Beyoncé and Drake. I completely feel you on engagement hopes and frequently thinking that our timeline should be sooner. But we have decided that we want to get married in April 2016, so my BF said that the engagement will happen sometime before Memorial Day (I guess that’s his way of keeping it a surprise). Secretly, I’m hoping he pops the question in March when we’ll be on a cruise for our anniversary, but we’ll see.  I’m alright with this timeline since we decided on it together, but of course I’m always wondering when it will happen. And since I know that after the engagement, we’re gonna be sooo busy trying to plan a wedding, I try to take a chill pill and enjoy the time we have now lol

@cu97tiger My BF and I met online on Okcupid.com. In January of last year I was really going through a lot and my best friend suggested that I join this dating site with her, just to get my mind off of things and possibly meet some new people. So after a few weeks and countless number of creep messages, I was ready to delete the profile altogether. The day I planned to delete my profile, a handsome one-dimpled guy (that stuck out to me the most hahaha) sent me a message, and as they say “the rest is history”. We’ve been partners in crime ever since.

Now as far as people not liking Purple, I’d try to get them to see the awesomeness that is Purple, but I understand that other colors are almost as awesome ;)

@speakeasy14 Wow, I’m sure I haven’t been on as many as you, but I’ve been on Celebrity, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, and Carnival. Carnival and Norwegian are my favorite.

  • @Swazzle. Hi! I'm from Lanham, MD, which is about 15 min away from Wash, DC. I've never had guacamole. I'm the type that refuses to pay for something I've never had before because of the fear that I'm not gonna like it and just wasted my money. But I have heard many good things about it. The last book I actually sat down and read was Fifty Shades Of Grey, the 2nd book. And I do watch TV, but only on certain nights. I never miss an episode of Scandal, How to Get Away with Murder, Parenthood, Once Upon A Time (I actually have some catching up to do for that one), and Bad Girls Club (its my guilty pleasure). I do a lot of binge watching on netflix
  • @justadream0315 - Woot! Another East Coaster! I'm in NJ. You should really give guac a try sometime because it's sent down straight from the heavens. I also watch Scandal and How to Get Away with Murder! I always watch Scandal the next day and I'm a week behind on HTGAWM.

  • @justadream0315 - I can't take Drake seriously. To me he will always be Jimmy from Degrassi, the paralyzed former-star of the high school basketball team. Haha

Also hard to believe no one has ever had FREE guac for you to try. Hell, it normally just comes with your meal at any decent Mexican place.

  • @Swazzle and @AlPacina I vow to try guacamole next time I go to Chipotle! I hope I love it as much as everyone else does, but if not at least I can say I've tried it.

I love Jersey, I used to go out there all the time. And its always good to meet another Scandal and HTGAWM watcher!

I feel the same way about Drake! and I think he's overrated, but I must say that he puts on a really good live show. My BF is a big fan of his, so that's the only reason I even agreed to go, but I enjoyed it more than I expected to.
  • Hi! Yay for another OUAT watcher! I'm obsessed with that show. Also, I would send you some fresh guacamole (I'm here in SoCal with tons of avocado trees!), but I think it would spoil before it reaches Maryland :(. In any case, you must try it.

Where are you going for your anniversary cruise?

Also, @AlPacina, Hi! I am one of the NEY people on here too. I needed a break from this board when you joined because I had some BSC moments about a ring/proposal/etc. and didn't want to look at wedding stuff while I cooled off and focused on other things. It's great that you and @justadream0315 both have timelines! BF and I don't....he kind of keeps stringing me along....which is why I had a break down a little while ago. Anyways, I highly recommend trying to find something else to keep your mind occupied during this time, like a new hobby or club.

  • Well hey, @AuroraRose41! Nice to meet you(-ish)! How long have you been with your man? Have you tried to talk timeline and he just avoids it? I always got jokes as responses when I tried to bring it up, until I had a bit of an "emotional moment" and we finally talked it out, haha. I understand not wanting to have wedding stuff in your face all the time. The holiday season is terrible for that! I feel like a ton of people get engaged in the winter! And then it winds up all over facebook.....

  • Nice to meet you too! We have been together just over 3 years, and BF started asking me about my engagement ring preferences about a year and a half ago. The main thing is that he is super traditional and wanted everything to be a surprise, but keeps getting overwhelmed when he looks at prices or different settings or diamonds, and then asks me for some input reluctantly. He even ordered a setting and then cancelled the order because he got indecisive.

I keep telling him that I don't want a big production and I don't want him to stress out about it, but unfortunately he is.

The latest issue was the center diamond....I gave him my minimum requirements for the 4 C's that were well within his budget (at least I color, VS2 clarity, Very Good Cut, 0.9ish CT), and he got overwhelmed because he thought that my minimum requirements weren't good enough and what he thought was good enough was out of his budget (at least G color, Ideal cut, VVS2 clarity, same CT).

I didn't find this out until I had my meltdown last week, and that was fueled by both of our families asking us when it is going to happen. His mother has been absolutely the worst about asking us. I love the woman, but the last time I was on the phone with her she already wanted to start planning, and I told her to wait until we actually are engaged. We live across the country from our families, but we are going home for Thanksgiving and Christmas, and I know these conversations are going to come up again and be a little more difficult to dodge. That's basically why I went a little BSC; because I don't want to have to keep bean dipping, and it would be much easier to start planning if it happens before we go back (we have talked about where to have it, and want it back in our home state near our families and friends). We won't be back there for another year otherwise.

BF did ask for my input with the diamond after my meltdown, and now we are going to a custom jeweler tomorrow to look at diamonds IRL and hopefully we can find one that is in his price range that he will be happy with.

  • @AuroraRose41 - Well hey, that's exciting! I'm sorry that the process has been stressing you out. Honestly, if I were in your BF's shoes I wouldn't be able to handle the process either! Haha. Not because of you, but because of how much work typically goes into it! It seems like people do so much research on rings and diamonds/stones, and I have no doubt in my mind that my proposal will be delayed because BF just won't feel like going through the hassle.

And I'm sorry you have family that's pressuring you guys. I know that for a friend of mine, he said he didn't decide to propose until his family finally stopped bugging him about it. It was hard for him to be sure it was HIS decision when he always had people telling him he should! So he didn't propose for 5 or 6 years, I think.

  • @AlPacina thanks! I really am trying to be as calm about it and not expect anything. One time I even told him in the middle of a parking lot that I wouldn't care if he got down on one knee right there without a ring and we just go pick it out later! Unfortunately, he is stressing himself out and I just want him to not put so much pressure on it. I have tried to make it as easy as possible (or so I thought) by sending him 3 very similar settings that I like, and the minimum requirements for a center stone, but he is still overwhelmed. I really am looking forward to tomorrow though so that I can show him that he can lower his expectations and I will still be extremely happy (but the best thing will be the fact that I get to marry him and not the ring itself).

I hope yours isn't delayed much and your BF doesn't put quite as much effort in as mine has. It's endearing in a sense that he wants to give me the best possible ring, but I also hate seeing him so stressed about researching it.

The family thing is difficult, but he's the one who told his mother that he was ring shopping, so I hope that he isn't feeling too pressured by them. They only started talking about it after BF mentioned that he was ring shopping. It is annoying, but at the same time I like seeing how excited they are.
